The classroom is an open environment and students are encouraged to ask questions, provide their own thoughts and feelings, and approach topics in a way that will work best for them. In my future classroom I will be open to students doing assignments differently than the examples I provide. Grading artwork off of a rubric seems silly to me because there is no right or wrong answer as long as a student can understand the concepts at hand. I would love to exercise the student focused philosophies in my future classroom. More specifically, I would exercise the humanistic philosophy by encouraging students to create original artwork. Every teacher’s goal is to have their students show their understanding by doing their own work and not cheating. With my role as an art teacher I believe it will be similar. Hopefully, I am able to teach students how to express what they are feeling through art, even if it might not make sense to others. The philosophy, constructivism can relate to my goal also. When students leave my classroom, I would like them to have the basic understanding of how to use various mediums to tell their own story. As they take on their own journeys with art, they have so many more opportunities to learn.

Depending on the subject being taught in a classroom, teacher focused philosophies may be exercised more than student focused philosophies. Students should be able to have their needs met in every setting though and they all have a right to be heard. Within my lesson plans, I will include time for students to set goals and regularly come back to them. Revisiting goals allows students to keep themselves on track.

My classroom will be a collaborative environment where students are encouraged to share their own knowledge. One example may be allowing students to teach each other in small groups. When I evaluate students I won't be harsh because as I mentioned earlier, I think art has many different correct answers. The assessments they are given will more than likely be based on the tools they are using and what they are used for. It is very hard to create an assessment system in an art room because even tools can be used in ways they weren't made for.
