What do you think face – to – face classrooms need to learn from this quarantine?💻

We are all well prepared, informed and qualified techers in a quarantine mode but I think there are lots of new things to learn from it. We know that a new way of teaching is just starting and the eagerness to learn new things is coming. The way we used to teach theree weeks ago has drastically changed. The questions are: Are we ready to deal with our lessons by the use of tecnology and keep in touch with our students and peers in the distance? Are we able to answer questions from our students and record videos on the other side of the screen without blushing? Can we upload virtual assignments and assess our students at the same time? The answer is YES! What we need to learn from this face -to - face classrooms quarantine is that from now on, the assignments to our students won´t be only in paper, we are going to correct errors and mistakes from the screen. We are going to learn to deal with different platforms, tools and applications. My advice is that we should take advantage of this and learn how to apply them on our daily lessons and adopt them as part of our new routine. This type of learning has come to stay between us for a long time.

What are the roles of the teacher in THE VIRTUAL AGE?

It is a fact that teachers are supporters, good listeners, role-models, care-takers and learnig facilitators. Consequently, no matter what role we develop, we are always teaching and learning from and with our students. I am going to focus on being a learning facilitator. Although it is true that learning should be experimental and the students should have an active role, the complement of the teacher that accompanies the learning process is necessary. The teacher of the digital age should maintain an attitude of permanent inquiry, promote the learning of competences, maintain a continuity of individual work to teamwork and promote the development of an ethical spirit. Technology and information by themselves do not guide, help or advise students, we need an aim before applying them. Aditionally, the teacher's role in an educational digital age is more essential than ever.

✔✔ I think this lesson was special because...

This Science Lesson was very special to me because I think that I had the opportunity to make an attractive lesson for my sixth graders last year. My students and I were supposed to start a new project because we were dealing with the IB Programe. Those units last only six weeks. I encourage them to star working on the Solar System. The students were diveded into small groups and they did some research on the Solar System. I focused on monitoring their work and check if they needed help. I gave them some explanations about the Planets and some Fun Facts that provoked on them more enthusiasm to keep on searching. When they have finished and were ready to deliver their presentations, the oral lessons started. They made very creative models on the topics that had been chosen and they presented their PPT’s orally. When they finished their presentations, I help them to put all the models in the empty classroom of our lab in order to allow the little ones to come and see the exhibition, as if they were in an art gallery. We enjoyed this project a lot, and as her teacher, I was proud of all the work done by my students. It was a very nice experience which I would like to recreate and repeat again.
