th1. Federal: The federal government looks after the big things in my life. They are responsible for national defence, which is nice so my family and I don’t need to worry about defending ourselves for other nations. The federal government also makes sure food meets certain standards so we won’t get sick from eating it. Currency is also taken care of by the government, they print the money and regulate banks. Finally, the government takes care of immigration, with out this my family would not have been able to come to Canada.

Provincial: The provincial government takes care of many things in my life. They take care of health care and decide what that money should be used, so if I ever need to see a doctor they take care of the cost (with some exceptions like drugs and crutches). They also help decide on the material taught in schools, so they decided that I would need to learn about these levels of government now in grade 9. The provincial government also decides what age you can learn to drive at and oversee teaching/ licensing. They also make sure civil rights are taken care of and people are treated in an acceptable manner.

Municipal: This branch of government takes care of lots of things I use daily. One of the most important things they take care of is transit, I use the bus most days to get to and from school so with out this service I would have a tough time getting to school. They also take care of public libraries, which I use frequently. Water is also their responsibility and since I’m human and need to drink water I use this service a lot. Finally, one more aspect of my life that the municipal government takes care of is recreation, I use this service weekly when I go to swim at the Pan-Am pool.

2. I feel that the level of government that has the most influence is the federal government. I feel this way because laws that are passed on Parliament Hill apply to everyone in Canada. Also, the federal government has the most influence because they control foreign affairs with other nations, this changes the countries we can visit and trade with. National defence is also taken care of by the federal government and this has lots of influence over the country because they keep us safe. Finally, the federal government is the most influential because they take care of criminal law and that shows us how all Canadians should behave and what the consequences are if you don’t follow the laws.

Relevance of levels of government question

1. Identify how each level of government effects YOUR life.

2. Which level has the greatest influence and why? Give real life examples.

Federal: The federal government controls foreign trade relations and examine imported products, immigration and passports. They also take care of defense at an international level, such as training soldiers and distributing them in bases. Another responsibility of theirs would be currency, how much our money worth and how it is distributed by giving the have-not province more tax money from the have province and from collecting GST. With the executive branch, house of Commons, and senate, they propose, examine, debate, and finally enforce the laws. Last but not least, the federal government runs postal service from oceans to oceans.

Provincial: The biggest responsibility of the provincial government in my opinion is to regulate hospitals, medical care, and welfare. Natural resources are a big responsibility, too, especially for regions with gasoline and potash. Furthermore, powering our houses relies on the government, as well as provincial and territorial highways. Additionally, provincial government decides the school curriculum, legal age for alcohol and driving, and types of transportation tool licenses. One more thing-minimum wage is provincial government’s choice, too! Their money comes from collecting GST, which I believe is 8% in MB.

Municipal: Now we are down to the city level, where what they so are more closely related to us, such as regulating water and sewage, prepare police and fire departments ready to protect us, and deciding where our garbage is going to go or it gets recycled instead. Municipal government also takes care of local recreational programs, and are in favor of building libraries and local roads and cleaning them, as well as keep the buses running. Municipal government collects property tax in order to fill these least.

My answer for 2: From my prescriptive, I think the municipal government influences myself the most. I’ve benefited from local programs when I was a new immigrant-they offered language lessons, tours, settling in school and tips of living in Winnipeg. I go to the library and the swimming pools every week, thanks to the municipal government. Without them, I have to take dirty water to a river and pour them down and might drink it some other day without being treated, or bring the garbage to my backyard to burn and pollutes the environment. Plus, we luckily are living in a peaceful era, and we don’t actually feel the protection from the federal level at our borders nor participate in the share-cost programs between provincial and federal government—they just seem so distant relatively to the municipal government.

Relevance of levels of government question

Identify how each level of government affects your life. (one paragraph for each)
Federal: the federal affects my life the least in my opinion. They control foreign trade and relation, immigration and other stuff that is not very relevant to me. For example, the aboriginal peoples do not involve me at all. They also have the responsibilities for things like defence, postal service, and communication. Those do affect me but only in a little way.
Provincial: If the provincial government took money away from the hospital, and the drivers education and license there is a higher risk of people getting in a car crash because there aren’t as many teachers. If there are more crashes then more people would have to go to the hospital, but they would not have enough nurses and doctors to take care of everyone. This would not be good. The provincial government affects my life in a huge way.
Municipal: I think that this involves me the most because its in my city and its stuff that I participate in. its stuff like recreation, transit, and local programs. For example, I take the bus to and from school. That’s transit! We also all need fire and police services at one point and that’s payed for by municipal government. That’s why I think I use it the most.

Which level has the greatest influence on you and why? Give real life examples. (one paragraph)
I think the municipal government has the greatest affect on me, then the provincial, and then the federal. I think this because the municipal has the smallest landmass that it has to take care of which means it has more specific responsibilities. Provincial is second because of the same reason but obviously bigger, and they take care of more serious things. I don’t think the federal has that big of an impact on me because they do stuff that impacts the whole country. They also do stuff that is very important but not things that we use everyday except for postal services.

Relevance of levels of government question
Identify how each level of government affects YOUR life, Which level has the greatest influence and why give real life examples.

1.Federal: protects us from invasion and keeps our land safe from other countries taking our resources and watches over our military and taxes and our laws and rules and keeps relations with other countries and keeps as much people happy as they can
Provincial: keeps our provinces safe keeps and makes and gets rid of laws and watches over taxes, they also watch over rules and help the police and make sure everyone is as safe as they can make it within the province
Municipal: they watch and make schools and hospitals they take care of all the people inside the city and roads and they look after some crime and police they can also watch over some taxes
2. My answer: I think municipal is because they watch over us in our city and instead of federal looking over everyone there is less time for personal things to be taken care of from federal but the municipal can help with personal lives schools and hospitals they take care of roads, houses and the people they look after the people in the city more carefully and closely because they have a smaller place to look at and take care of them so it is easier to look after more people in a smaller place.

Also, when its too cold outside to walk, I can take the transit bus that’s cheap and provides heat and or air conditioning.

Give real life examples.

My answer for 2:

Q1:Ans: 1. The federal level of government affects me by how I have my natural resources, my public safety, my finance, and last but not least my healthcare. They also protect me from wars and disasters, and they protect me from laws too. They also make sure that the food that is being transported to Canada is actually good to eat not poisonous or anything.

Ans: 2. The provincial government affects my life by making sure I have a good education, they also make sure that I have a good hospital to go and takes care of my welfare and medical care. They allow tourism so I can visit parks and recreation centers, another thing that they do is collect GST and gives the people who don’t really have much in provinces more tax money from the people who have in provinces.

Ans: 3. The municipal level of government affects my life by having the responsibility of airports which allows me to go in and book a flight. They also have water as a responsibility which I can count on them that they are allowing me to drink clean and clear water. And for my last response they also take care of transits so without it I don’t think I would ever get to school on time.

Q2: I think the level of the federal government has the greatest influences because they have laws which goes to the so called parliament hill and which makes us Canadians follow these laws. Also they help with foreign affairs and international trade which will allow Canada to have some good and interesting things from other places. Another thing is that if I’m an immigrant I can come to Canada and apply to be a citizen. The federal government also watches out for National Defence, National Revenue, National Resources, and Public safety. So in conclusion I believe that the federal government has the greatest influence.

They’re in charge of the defense which means they must deal with the soldiers etc. Some other responsibilities they have are postal service, immigration, and currency. These things affect my life but not a lot as the other ones because some of these only affect me by a little bit. For example, the federal government is responsible for the aboriginal peoples which has nothing to do with me.

Provincial: There are lots of things that the provincial government is responsible for but I think the most important one is health and welfare. But taking care of natural resources and environment is important to. The provincial government affects me in a huge way because not only hospitals are important but going to school is to. They take care of driver education and licensing, so as provincial or territorial highways.

Municipal: The last level of government is municipal. The responsibilities they have are to take care of the water and sewage, streets and roads, police and fire departments, transit, garbage and recycling, libraries, and local recreational programs. Yes, other levels of governments affect my life someway but I feel like municipal has a greater influence. Like I mentioned before I use the bus sometimes when I go to school so I don’t freeze to death when I’m walking. I also feel safe and secure because of the protection I have from the police. It’s also good that they are responsible for garbage and recycling because if there wasn’t then people would be littering. Even though I don’t go swimming I think it’s nice for other people if their interested thanks to the municipal government. I go to the library to borrow books and it’s nice to have a variety of books to choose from and discover new books that you never heard of. I think water is very important because without it then I would probably go to a river and use water that might not be clean.

MayaRelevance of Levels of Government Questions1.) Identify how each level of government affects YOUR life. 2.) Which level has the greatest influence and why? Give real life examplesFederal: -affects me because: without the federal government, there would be no army, which means that my family and I would no longer be safe. The federal government is also in charge of immigration, which means that without the federal government I would have never been able to leave my country and immigrate to Canada. (Taxes)Provincial: -affects me because: if there wasn’t a provincial government, there would be no schools, so I would not be able to learn, and there would also be no healthcare, which means that if I were to become sick, I would not be able to be treated in a hospital. The provincial government also makes the rules and laws that I follow. (Taxes)Municipal: -affects me because: the municipal government is in charge of everything that happens in the city I live in, for example, if there is a fire in my city, the municipal government needs to make sure that there are firefighters available nearby. The municipal government also takes care of any crime that might happen around me or if I were to commit crime. They help contain issues like crime by making sure that there are police stations and officers available within the city. The Municipal Government also provides me with heated buses, and clear roads/paths within my city. My answer for #2: I think that the most important government is the federal government, because overall I think that the federal government has the most control/power/effect on people in Canada. The federal government controls who enters/leaves Canada, which means that I could have had a completely different life if it wasn’t for the federal government (I was born in Israel where there is war and it can be dangerous/was at the time). It also affects me because the federal government is open to welcoming refugees, who are people I might go to school, or work with in the future –an example includes the Syrian refugees. The federal government also decides what tax money will go into and affects the taxes I pay. International trade, and other countries Canada associates with is also decided by the Federal Government, which means that more than 70% of the things I own, eat and the things that are sold to other people of Canada might have never been available if it weren’t for the Federal Government.

1] Federal:The federal government is responsible for national defence. Which is a good thing because me and the people in Canada, don’t have to worry about enemy attacks. The federal government makes sure food meets certain standards so we won’t get sick from eating it. Currency is also taken care of by the government. They print money and regulate banks. The federal government also takes care of immigrants in Canada. They control foreign trade relations and examine imported products.

2] Provincial: The provincial government takes care of a lot of things in my life. They take care of health care. So If I get sick and go to the hospital I don’t have to worry about the money I have to pay because the provincial government took care of that. Plus, I don’t even have to pay for my medicines, drugs and crutches. Natural resources are a big responsibility, too, especially for regions with gasoline and potash. Also powering our houses relies on the government as well as provincial and territorial highways. Also the provincial government decides the school curriculum, legal age for alcohol and driving, and types of transportation tool licenses.

3] Municipal: This branch of government takes care of things I use almost every day. The most important things they care of is transit, I don’t use the bus hardly ever because I have a car and I live 5 minutes away from school. The transit system is very a good system for the people who doesn’t have a car. Like students that go to university and high school students. The most important thing they care about is water. They make sure the water is clean and pure. Because we are humans we need water 100% every day. They also take care of our garbage’s. they are responsible for building libraries and collecting property taxes.

4] Me Answer: I think that the provincial government has the most influence because they take care of my health and free hospitality. The people needs this the most because any of their relatives will get sick anywhere and anytime so they can go to the hospital anytime and don’t have to pay for it. The hospitals are open 24/7. The reason the federal isn’t the most influence to me is because it’s all government stuff, its none of my business and I don’t use or worry about it daily.

Relevance of levels of government question

1.	Identify how each level of government affects YOUR life.
2.	Which level has the greatest influence and why? Give real life examples.

Federal: The federal government affects my life by many reasons. One is by having to follow the laws they commanded such as how to become a citizen or becoming an immigrant. My family had to follow those rules before being able to come here to Canada. The responsibilities they have are important for us as well because without them, people living in Canada would have a hard time living properly. Those responsibilities include banking, criminal and copyright laws, foreign affairs, national defense etc.

Provincial: The provincial government affects me because without this government, there would be no hospitals, education, prisons and many more. These are the things the provincial government are responsible for and without them, everyone would have a tough time living in Canada. Health care and education would not be provided to me and my family, as well as those who need them. Criminals may increase because there would be no prisons and many other problems would increase without these vital services in our lives.

Municipal: The municipal government is affecting my life by having to follow this government’s rules. This government also has responsibilities such as city parks, public transportation, water, and sewer services etc. Without these services, it would be hard to live properly because first, if I needed to travel somewhere far and there’s no transportation, that would be challenging to all of us. Second, if water was needed and this government didn’t provide it, then everyone would become thirsty and may even die. In the end, our lives are affected positively by all of the three governments because they provide our needs.

Answer for #2: The federal government has the greatest influence because the laws that come out from them is for the whole country. Everyone in the country is required to obey and follow them, even the provincial and municipal governments need to have their laws suitable and applicable to the federal government’s laws. For example, the federal government made the privacy act, the provincial or the municipal governments can’t make a law against that privacy act.

Federal government :In my opinion all the three governments affect us in some way or another. One government might affect you more than another. The federal government has a more global affect on us. It takes care of things like immigration, passports, war and peace, and the RCMP. Speaking an as immigrant, I think Canada’s immigrations policies are great. The skilled workers program was how we came here and if Pierre Trudeau hadn’t come up with this policy for people who were skilled than I don’t know how we could’ve immigrated here because we weren’t refugees and we didn’t have family here to sponsor us. Some things the federal government also takes care of is war and peace, which includes the army. This government is responsible for keeping us all safe. Lastly, they issue me my passport which is needed for getting around the world.Provincial: The provincial government affects me in several ways. They’re in charge of my health care, education, the roads, Manitoba’s natural resources, laws, driver’s licenses, and environment care. If the government did not care about making hospitals for us, then we wouldn’t have anywhere to go in an emergency or simply if you needed a checkup. Education is also a major point because we need to learn before we can achieve important life tasks. Clear roads aren’t that big of a deal but if we have bumpy roads it can just be a safety issue. They also clean up the garbage for me so my city doesn’t get littered. The money Manitoba gets from the natural goes towards my education. Health care and etc.Municipal Municipal government affects me because It provides libraries, recreational/ community centres, local police, local roads, and parks. Centres like the YMCA provide me with lots of extra-curricular activities. Local police keep track of all the crime and does its best to prevent it. Roads can be a problem in the winter. If you’re driving on a bad road your car is likely to get stuck. Parks are also a key factor because even though we’re not kids anymore we still might use it for several other things like hanging out with our friends.Answer for #2: I think the provincial government has more of an impact on my life. This is because I don’t use community centres, libraries, etc. as much. Whereas the provincial government provides me with schools/ education and health care which are the two main factors in my opinion. They make sure that all my educational and health needs are met. If they didn’t care of these things than I wouldn’t have anywhere to go if I needed medical attention and/or wanted to learn. For example, I had to go the emergency once and even though it took a lot of time for me to see the doctor, I knew there was going to be no cost and that I could rely on their medical care. Some of the smaller things they take care of are laws and drivers licenses. They make up the provincial laws that keep everybody safe. Lastly driving licenses, they might not be a huge deal to some people but I think it’s an important aspect, including the fact that I can’t wait to drive. Sometimes, my dad also goes like I can’t wait until you get your license so I don’t have to drive you around anymore. If we didn’t have these services provided to us by the provincial government we wouldn’t be able to achieve everyday life tasks.

Relevance of Levels of Government Question
1.	Identify how each level of government affects YOUR life.

Federal:
The federal government affects me because it controls the taxes, help pay for things like hospitals and community centres. The governments control the trades, immigration, and passports, without that we would be able to travel. A lot of the stuff that they control doesn’t affect me that much.

Provincial:
The provincial government controls schooling, health and social services, highways, the administration of justice, and local government. It affects me because without it there wouldn’t me schools so I would have a good education. There also wouldn’t be highways to drive on and to get places on.

Municipal:
The municipal government controls the garbage pick up, transit to fire services, policing and programs at community centre, libraries, and pools. It affects me because if there wasn’t a government I wouldn’t be able to go and do lot of stuff like that.

2. Which level has the greatest influence and why? Give real life examples.

My answer for 2:
I think that the provincial government has the greatest influence because I live everyday and if I didn’t have it I wouldn’t be able to go to school and have good health services, like hospitals to go to if was hurt and needed help. I also wouldn’t be able to drive places because they control the highways.

This directly impacts the amount of money citizens have on a daily basis. The government control over tax cuts and tax relief. Also the federal government is responsible for the currency how much our Canadian money worth how it should distributed to other provinces if they needed and other important things.
