From our usrah sessions, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of my role as a servant of Allah and my responsibilities as a member of society. Moving forward, my goals are to continuously improve myself spiritually and academically, contribute meaningfully to the community, and apply Islamic principles in my personal and professional life. I also aim to strike a balance between worldly achievements and preparing for the afterlife, ensuring that whatever I do aligns with the values of deen and benefits others

Week 1 - Hikmah from ibadah

Ibadah is not just about performing rituals; it is a way of life that helps align our hearts, minds, and actions with the purpose Allah has set for us. One profound wisdom I have realized from ibadah is how it nurtures the soul. For instance, prayer brings structure to my day by reminding me to pause and reconnect with Allah from my busy life. It cultivates humility by making me aware of my dependence on Him and reinforces the importance of gratitude for the countless blessings I often overlook. Other than that, fasting teaches me patience, self-control, and empathy. By experiencing hunger and thirst, I become more aware of the struggles faced by those less fortunate, which motivates me to give back and be more compassionate. It also strengthens my reliance on Allah and helps me develop a sense of discipline.

When we reflect on "Salah with Khushu’," it reminds us of the real purpose of prayer: to connect deeply with Allah. It's easy to get caught up in just going through the motions of prayer, but Khushu teaches us that Salah is so much more than just a religious obligation. It’s a chance to find peace, to quiet our minds, and to strengthen our faith.

To truly experience Khushu, we need to be mindful in our prayers. Taking the time to understand the meanings of the verses we recite and making an effort to block out distractions helps us stay focused and present in the moment. It’s not always easy because khushu is a journey that requires effort and constant striving. But the peace and sense of closeness to Allah that come with it are so worth it. Every day, we have the opportunity to grow in this and make our connection with Allah deeper and more meaningful.

Reflecting on this, I realize that wisdom is something more profound than just knowing facts or having intellectual knowledge. Hikmah is about truly understanding life, our actions, and the world around us in a deeper way. It’s the ability to make choices that align with our values, to show compassion, and to live with a sense of purpose. It’s humbling to think that Allah, in His infinite wisdom, grants hikmah to those who seek it sincerely. It’s a reminder that we’re not expected to have all the answers right away. Wisdom grows over time, shaped by our experiences, reflections, and the lessons we learn along the way.The journey to acquiring hikmah is something we should actively pursue, not for personal gain but to become better people, making decisions that not only benefit ourselves but also the people around us.

Reflecting on Sawm (fasting) brings me to realize that it’s more than just abstaining from food and drink. It’s a powerful spiritual practice that teaches self-discipline, patience, and empathy. When we fast, we not only cleanse our bodies but also purify our hearts and minds. It’s a time for introspection, a chance to reconnect with Allah and to understand the true meaning of sacrifice.

The physical act of fasting reminds me of the many blessings we often take for granted, like food and water, and encourages gratitude for what we have. But it also strengthens our ability to control our desires and urges, teaching me how to be more mindful and deliberate in our actions. During Ramadan, it’s especially meaningful to think about those who go without food regularly, fostering a sense of compassion and solidarity with others.

Week 6 - Zakat and sadaqah

This week for Zakat and Sadaqah really makes me think about the importance of giving and how much it’s tied to our faith. Zakat isn’t just a nice thing to do; it’s a responsibility that purifies our wealth and reminds us that everything we have is a gift from Allah. It’s easy to forget that others are struggling, but Zakat forces us to confront that reality and share with those in need. It’s a way to make sure wealth doesn’t stay in the hands of a few, but flows through the community, supporting those who are less fortunate.

Sadaqah is a beautiful concept, too because it’s about giving not because we have to, but because we want to. It doesn’t have to be money; it can be a kind word, a helping hand, or just showing compassion to someone. It reminds me that generosity isn’t always about big donations. Even the smallest act of kindness can have a huge impact, and that feeling of giving, of knowing you’ve made someone’s day a little bit better, is something truly special.

Week 7 - Hajj and umrah

What i learn from this topic, Hajj and Umrah really makes me appreciate the deep spiritual meaning behind these journeys. Hajj is one of the most important acts of worship in Islam, and for those who are able, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience something truly life-changing. It's not just about traveling to Mecca; it's about shedding everything else in life and standing before Allah with nothing but your faith. The rituals of Hajj remind us of the sacrifices made by the Prophets, especially Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and they teach us patience, humility, and the strength of unity as we stand together with millions of fellow Muslims from all around the world.

Both Hajj and Umrah remind me of how humble we should be. When you’re there, in a sea of people all dressed the same, performing the same rituals, you realize that in front of Allah, we’re all equal. No matter where we come from or what we have, we stand together in submission, united in our worship.

Reflecting on this, I realize how much Salah with Khushu’ can truly transform the way we approach life. It’s not just about completing a ritual, but about being fully present with Allah, paying attention to both our physical and mental state during prayer. It makes me see how important it is to slow down, focus, and connect with Him sincerely.

The qualities like sincerity (Ikhlas), humility (Tawaddu’), and gratitude (Syukran) are reminders for me to practice these values beyond prayer. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of life, but taking time to reflect on my actions and emotions during Salah helps me realign my intentions and stay grounded.

Every prayer becomes an opportunity to grow closer to Allah, evaluate myself, and become a better person. It’s a reminder that the little things we do with devotion can make a huge impact on our lives and our relationship with Allah.
