Adaptations of the Elephant trunk:

Like mentioned above, there are so many different functions and adaptations of an elephant trunk. The elephant trunk consists of its upper lip, nose, and two nostrils that are the length of the entire elephant trunk. Some elephants have two lingers at the end of the trunk and some have one. This allows elephants to pick up many different items. Some items can me delecate and others are very heavy. In fact, there are many muscles in the trunk that make it strong and sturdy. Although, there are no bones in the truck. This allows the trunk to be flexible as well as being sturdy.
The trunk's length is the most obvious adaptation. The elephant needs this long trunk to be able to drink and eat. Because of the elephant's short neck, it is unable to bend down far enough to drink from a lake or eat off the ground. The trunk sucks up water and food, then feeds itself by putting its trunk in its mouth. There are so many different types of adaptations the elephant trunk can do, it is such a fascinating attribute.

I can create a prototype that will allow me to extend my arm to reach hard to reach objects under the couch. The prototype will be adapted to extend my reach, have a finger-like scoop to direct the object toward the user, and a type of suction to bring the object in.

Each prototype will be attached to your hand to extend your reach to retrieve the missing item.

PROTOTYPE 1: 18 inches long, hollow, with a flexible material, plastic glove-like material to help stay on your hand

PROTOTYPE 2: Added a scoop on the end, strengthened the material so that it is durable, and add a handle inside the hollow tube to keep on the hand

PROTOTYPE 3: The hinge on the scoop acts as the fingers on the elephant trunk. Elephant trunks have the ability to suction & hold many gallons of water. This would be helpful for humans by always being hydrated.

3. Elephant trunks do not have any bones in them. This allows them to be so flexible that they are able to get to hard to reach areas. Humans could take advantage of this as well.
