Racism is still a prevalent issue within todays society. Even though racism is an illegal act and categorized as a hate crime, people still use racial slurs, idealizations, and discriminate based on ethnicity and race. Most individuals receive context through information that is taught, and observed. Media and culture plays a huge role in this. Disney contributes to racism by including subtly racist characters or racist portrayal of characters within their films. A film like "Pocahontas" depicts the history between Indigenous peoples and European settlers as wrong on both parts. However, in actuality this is untrue, because the settlers came to the Americas with intention of claiming land and abolishing the Indigenous peoples to create a socially constructed society. But somehow, the stereotype that Indigenous folks are savages still exists in peoples minds today. Disney's portrayal of racism contributes to the existing racism in todays society.

I still need to learn how did all the editors, creators miss the racist portrayals? Why did no one notice the fault in them? Did Walt Disney himself abide to racism during his era? Will Disney’s contributions to racism will affect the future? Will it uphold already existing stereotypes through its socially constructed idealizations of race? My belief is that Disney’s contributions will affect the future and uphold society’s existing stereotypes because Disney movies are a staple in society. Disney films will always be around to influence culture. Also, Disney’s audience mainly consists of children. Children will always be the future of society because they will replace the older generations. However, if stereotypes are embedded in their minds at a young age, they will most likely adopt those beliefs. Through doing further research on Disney productions and the creator Walt Disney himself, I can better understand and answer these questions.
