         <description><![CDATA[<div>Title: “Shadow Happy”</div><div>Materials:  Pages of a hand-written book</div><div>Location: Denver International Airport</div><div>Artist: Brianna Martray</div><div>Intent of the Artist: 10,000 FOLDED PAPER CRANES<strong> </strong></div><div>Once upon a time, I wrote a novel.  It took me 8 years and upon completion a New York City Literary Agent asked for a copy.  I reread it again, decided it wasn't good enough and never sent it.  In 2006, I started folding the stacks of manuscript pages lying around my house into origami cranes.  Fast forward to the summer of 2010 when both my computer and my back up hard drive are stolen and the only finished copy of my novel lives in 10,000 folded paper cranes, the shadow of thousands of hours of work, the history of my creative journey, remnants of a former self.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

Born in Yokohama, Japan, Sayaka explains that, "Japanese Shinto beliefs are such that all objects and organisms have spirits, and objects that are discarded before their time weep at night inside the trash bin... or so they teach children at many preschools." Whether truth or tale, the image stuck with Sayaka as she moved from country to country. “I had a strong desire to fit in".</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

Using thirty-seven tons of dry ice and red flares the performance was staged outside in a parking lot near Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar. No one knew how long it would take to melt, or when the ice would stop smoking. Apparently, it was still smoking on Saturday night, but by Sunday the installation had, for all practical purposes, “disappeared.”</div>]]></description>
