My name is Mitsuka Kato, and I am a student at Centennial College, studying Nutrition and Food Service Management. I will complete my studies in the Spring of 2025. I was raised in Japan in a supportive family that included my parents, grandparents, and younger sister. I developed a passion for staying healthy by cooking nutritious meals and being physically active from an early age. My mother and grandmother, who raised me, deeply influenced my decision to pursue a career in the nutrition and food field. They inspired me to the value of preparing healthy meals, exploring new recipes, and celebrating festive traditional foods associated with the beautiful seasons in Japan. Through their example, I learned the importance of helping others maintain their health through nourishing food.

After graduating from university in Japan, I became a registered nurse. During my time as a nurse, I discovered the profound satisfaction that comes from making positive changes in their lives. However, I also felt a sense of frustration, as I realized my ability to provide direct physical treatment was limited. Over time, I became increasingly interested in nutrition rather than general care because food is fundamental to everyone's health, regardless of who they are.

Unlike physical treatments, which cannot magically cure a patient’s illness or eliminate its root cause, nutrition has the unique power to directly shape and support the body. Providing knowledge about proper nutrition or meals that meet a patient’s specific needs can greatly improve their well-being. This realization motivated me to step away from my career as a nurse and move forward to a new journey in a field that aligns with both my childhood interests and my desire to make an important difference in others’ health and happiness.
