Area of Triangle:
Objectives:
1. Students are able to explain why area of a triangle is half times base times height
2. Students are able to highlight base and corresponding height
Techniques:
1. Use Word document shapes (a rectangle, and triangle) to show how a triangle (acute, right angle) is always half of a rectangle. Proceed to join two rectangles together with triangles in them to prepare for Tut2 Q13, 14 type questions
2. Use whiteboard market to draw a parallelogram, and therefore introduce the fact that the parallelogram has the same area as the rectangle in step 1. Thus, the obtuse triangle is also half the area of the parallelogram.
3. For visual learners especially: draw stickmen at the BASE and then relate that to height.
