- In the 1890's, a catalog company, Sears and Roebuck catalouge offered syringe and cocaine for about one fifty. (no drug laws)
-  In 1890, the first tax on morphine and opium began.

1909
- Banned the possession, importation, and use of opium for smoking. One of the first laws passed to ban non-medical use of a drug

1914
- Congress passed the Harrison Act, which controlled production and distribution opiates. Full regulation by government

1919
- 18th amendment passed,
- National Prohibition Act (Volsted) passed that guided how to enforce 18th

1937
- Tax on sale of weed placed (Marijuana Tax Act)
- Did not criminalize possession, but heavy penalty for taxes

1970
- Controlled Substance Act passed
- 5 Schedules for drugs, 1 is the most dangerous, 5 is the least

1971
- Nixon declares war on drugs

- Many blue collar workers fall victim to these pills, easy to get because of the field they work in
- Laws were passed to reduce abuse, and just led to abuse of heroin 

New Mexico
- One of the oldest cities with a heroin abuse and overdoes streak 
- Current generations get it from the older generations
