It is used for actions that have started in the past but continue in the present.


Grammatical Rules

As in the present perfect, we use the auxiliary verb "to have" in addition to "been" (the past participle of the verb "to be") plus the verb + ing.


Structure


1. Affirmative Sentences 

Subject + auxiliary verb (to have) + "state" + verb + ing.

2. Negative Sentences 

Subject + auxiliary verb (to have) + "not" + "been" + verb + ing.

3. Interrogative Sentences

Auxiliary verb (to have) + subject + "been" + verb + ing?

4.-Negative question
To form a negative sentence in the present perfect continuous you must put the conjunction not between have / has and been, the past participle of the verb to be.

At that moment Sam's friends arrived, they hadn't seen each other for a while, Sam's friends say a sentence that reminds him of his past "WE HAVE NOT BEEN DANCING FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS", to which Sam answers: I miss those moments with the band very much, sorry for not being at rehearsals, I haven't been able to attend because I have a lot of school work, Don't worry, Sam's friend answers.
