Fractions

Math is subject that I need to work on and learn how to teach. Fractions especially give me some trouble.

One way I can teach this area of Math is by showing this youtube video to my students. This video is a fun and engaging video that visually helps you learn fractions. You can see how many parts are in a fruit with fractions and how they can be changed to equal the same fraction. 4/8 is the same as 2/4 which equals 1/2.

Decimals/Place Values

Figuring out what place a decimal is in and what the value of the number is can be challenging to many students.

Teaching this topic will be difficult. What kind of manipulatives do I use to enhance learning? After the "tenths place," it gets confusing. How do you figure out the value of number with decimals inserted?

I think using blocks in my experience has helped students learn place values a lot more. Having something they can play with in their hands helps them figure out the task at hand.

Students will need to know how to count in tens to simplify and make their blocks easier to solve.

Geometry is tough for many, especially children. When it comes to angles...forget about it.
(at least in my experience)

Figuring out angles is something I need to learn myself before teaching others. (MATH IS HARD!)

A way I can teach angles to my students is by using a clock. clocks already have arrows that are straight, so they can help me out a lot. I can give each student a paper clock and have them turn the "hands" to make whatever angle I tell them to make, like a 90 degree angle or a 45 degree one. Having a tactile approach to this is a good way to teach students because they can physically move the hands to make the degrees they need.

Math is one area I need help in to teach. Teaching it will be a struggle for me since History is my strong suit and not Math.

Technology today has helped me a lot by allowing me to look at different ways I can teach lessons in Math. I can make it fun and educational. (I can also learn a thing or two in the process)
