I've been watching these videos myself since high school. Not only is he great at explaining, but this individual who creates these youtube videos makes learning more enjoyable. He teaches every subject, as an overview, or greatly detailed for the amount of knowledge needed. This particular video relates to the subject matter a student would learn in the 7th grade.

One expectation of the Grade 7 curriculum is the "impacts of human activities and technologies on the environment, and evaluate ways of controlling these impacts." (Ontario Curriculum, Science and Technologies)

http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/scientec18currb.pdf
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eTCZ9L834s

Experiments/ Projects:

Kids learn more through hands on experiences in which they can have a good time.

One project they could be given is looking at the effects of stress and strain:

Stress & strain

Get the kids to make a model to show how stress and strain affect different materials (wood, silly putty, etc.)

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/learn/kids/sciencefair.php

NOVA is using a teacher's guide to a classroom activity.
I chose to use this particular structure because I personally believe that building a bridge will allow students to have the full learning concept of the grade.

They are clear and conciece instructions with simple every day materials.
Seeing as my classroom CSL is in a school with special education children, something like this is perfect.

There is also a video for the children to watch and better understand if they are more of a visual learner

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/education/activities/2416_bridge.html
