Well this book is about a man that found a small rat on the street, and since he got very emotional he decided to take him to his very comfortable home .
And he then got offered a job at a restaurant , but he had no idea how to cook so the rat started to help him out and slowly they started to get a lot closer .

summary: Its a book about a young man living in Algeria who later on receives a telegram about his mother's death.  When he visited his mother's funeral he surprised everyone by his calm actions.
He carried on life as if nothing tragic had happened.
After a few weeks he went on a beach vacation , where he was confronted by 2 Arab men. Meursalut (the main character) eventually ends up killing one of the men. Meursalut was a strange man, one who was detached and even looked forward to his death.

La jeune fille refuse énergiquement. Sson père demande alors à Valère de la convaincre. Ce dernier acquiesce faussement, mais songe à fuir avec son amante si nécessaire.
