We started our practicum fall/winter and the tundra/beach was already covered in snow. But during the summer when I worked at Aakuluk daycare, we used some bubbles, draw with chalk on the playground they have, played with sand at the city playground just down the street from them and the children played with resources that were available at the playground they went to, we spent so much outdoors but it was mostly at the playground they went to daycare have. With the daycare i have been to since i started practicum with my classmates we have never really went on the beach or tundra but when i worked in Pang as a relief worker, we would go near the shore to throw rocks into the water.

I never really had a chance to plan activities at my current practicum placement but I worked at Kids on the beach daycare the summer of 2025. During the weekend, I collected rocks at apex beach because I had an idea for children at the daycare. The next day (Monday), I brought the rocks that I collected and prepared everything during nap time. Once all children were ready for an activity, I read a book about plants “Meeka loves nature” although it is not related to rocks, children were still interested in it. I painted a rock and children were so carious on how I did some art on a random piece of rock, I explained and interacted with children while they painted. It was my very first time to do this activity that I used from the tundra and I decided to keep the rocks. I love them!

Rosalynn

Rosalynn and I did a scavenger hunt with Arctic animal props, so we hid the Arctic animals in a bin full of snow. Children were so interested in looking for the Arctic animals.
