Growing up poor and on food stamps as well as struggling with money all the time made me feel less as a person as a kid. It's really depressing to see how addicted to money people can be and just how much people care about showing off their wealth. There is also such a big gap at the top between the 5%, the 1%, and the .1%. I was surrounded by wealthy children with wealthy parents and I knew that I was not quite like them, but the first time I felt the magnitude of this was the first time I was called poor… when I was 7… by another 7 year old. Tuition was really high and I was able to get a scholarship but what helped me out the most was finding a sponsor. Finding a sponsor meant that they first off had to like me and second was to keep my grades steady and basically make the school look good. I remember working really hard to prove my worth to stay at such a school. Money wasn’t necessary tight but I had to give up certain extracurricular actives I was into at that time to help pay for tuition. My mother worked hard for me and taught me how to save and use money.
