1. The author is trying to show us to share with others after a boy gets his Halloween candy taken away for another kid who was too late for trick-or-treating
2. The author is trying to convince us to give to others in need and be kind and generous
3. I know this because as the narrarator was upset about loosing his candy, the Timekey kids were happy about getting their share of Halloween candy
4. The author proves this to me by showing the appreciation and tone of the tomkey kids, in addition to the description we get of them as a "boring" family in the beginning

He eventually turned into a dragon. This is saying how greed brings out the worst inside of us, that it is better to give away.
I agree with the author because he is showing us something from his past to tell us how we shouldn't be greedy because while he was trying to stop people from getting his candy, he ended up losing more than he kept

1. The author is trying to show us that we shouldn't judge people and hate on them when you don't know them. He's also trying to show us that we shouldn't be selfish and share.
2. The author is trying to persuade us to not be greedy and rude.
3. I know this because the narrator was jealous and unfair to the Tomkeys. He was greedy and instead of sharing, he ate all the candy himself, even the chocolate, which made his head throb. This only lead to him looking messy, but also made him seem as selfish and self-centered.
4. The author proves this to me by telling a moral at the end, stating that being greedy won't help you and judging others because they are different is not morally right. Additionally, his mother saw him as a slob, and he didn't get anything out of it, only karma (his terrible headache)
I agree with the authors point of view because he states a good moral. For example, "some people create their own storms, then get upset when it happens" this describes the boy because he created a mess when being selfish and refusing to give the Tomkeys any candy, and ended up getting even more angry after being forced to give the candy away.

The author is trying to persuade us to accept others and not be avaricious people.

3. I know this because the author talks about how the narrator was being greedy by not giving the neighbors candy the day after Halloween however he eventually gave them candy after hogging most of it and having to have his mother choose what to give.

4. The the author further proves this by having the narrator pity the timekey kids because they don't have a tv, so they won't understand many jokes from tevevision but the timekeys are happy taking time to sit down and discuss things as a family even thought the narrator still believes it is selfish of the Dad to deprive his children of television they have no problem with it because they were raised that way.

ARTICLE "Us and Them)"

1. The author wrote this to tell us that we shouldn't keep being greedy just because of someone's characteristics.
2. The author convinces the reader to respect other people who are different, and not treat them like they are invisible.
3. According to the article, the narrator didn't really like the Tomkey family, which is why he had a different and harsh view of them. Since they don't have T.V, when they were asking for candy (or begging, as the boy describes when you trick or treat on November 1st) the narrator didn't want to give them it, even the chocolate that he doesn't like to eat. He even says that while it hurts to destroy his candy, it hurts even more to give it away.
4. The author further proves this to me by having the narrator organize his candy into which would be good to give to the Tomkey family. he used which ones would be the crummiest. If he was thinking, he would have thought to put the most valuable ones in his drawer. However, even when he despise chocolate, he still jams the chocolate in his mouth to prevent the Tomkey family to get them.

I agree with the author point of view. Being greedy doesn't give you anything. You would better be off sharing than not sharing. If the boy wasn't greedy, he wouldn't spend all his time dealing with a headache now.

The author is trying to teach me a lesson.
    3. I know because throughout the story the author makes the family scary weird and suspicious. This is because they don't watch tv and mr.tomkey keep slamming his fist on the table and pointing his fork at his two kids 4. The author uses this to show that being greedy and judging people gets you no where. What goes around comes around.

The author wrote this to show how you should analyze yourself and your life as well.

The author is trying to convince you that you should be true to yourself and realize how you shouldn't judge someone before you can judge yourself.

I know this because the author pretends that not making friends is a conscious choice from knowing that they move a lot but it could most likely mean that he felt alone and refused to pay attention to what he truly was feeling. Having friends and leaving them soon would probably further develop those feelings. He most likely did this out of instinct or as a defense. I can prove this because in the beginning the makes a statement that his parents agree that the television is not something they believe in but still get caught up with it. Also he thinks protectively of the Tomkeys because he "pities" them. He exclaims how the Tomkeys were forced to talk during dinner because they have no TV, but he spends a lot of time watching them. This lets you assume that his own family doesn't spend as much time together, in result he feels lonely.

The author proves his point by expressing how he felt hatred towards the Tomkeys after they came trick or treating on November first. They spent Halloween going on a boat trip together as a family and stick together and go trick or treating together even if it's begging because it's no longer Halloween. He stuffs his candy in his mouth because he doesn't want the Tomkey family to have it out of jealousy or selfishness , because they were his favorite "rom com". It shows how foolish he looks in the end for pitying them and judging them because he gained a form of entertainment, humiliation, and a headache in the end while the Tomkey family gained valuable memories and experiences. The author realizes in the end how he compared his family to theirs and how he should have realized that the reason he was so curious about the Tomkey family was because they spent family time something he longed for though he didn't admit. All in all the author most likely named this story "Us and them " after reflecting on a moment in his past life where he was not being true or fair to himself or the world around him.

I agree with the author because in life you do things subconsciously because of events in your life. Thinking your superior is natural for people even though you might not show it. However if you take time to look back on a situation similar to the one in the story you might discover something about yourself.

1. The author wrote this to show that you should not judge or base your opinion of someone based on their lifestyles or beliefs before you judge yourself.
2. The author is trying to convince us that you should take a look at your own life and how you live before you can judge others, too.
3.I know this because in the text it constantly shows the main character watching the Tomkey's family talk with each other since they don't have a TV but never actually interacts with them. This is similar to him watching television, which really shows how lonely he is that he doesn't talk with his family as much as the Tomkey's do. Also, the author writes in the beginning that the main character feels that not having friends is a consciousness choice for him, but at the end he feels a sense of loss when he gets angry at them.
4. The author proves his point to me by showing how the main character's opinion of them changes after meeting face-to-face for the first time and seeing how different they are from him.

I agree with the author's point of view because he conveys a good lesson about not judging others before you judge yourself and that it is important to recognize these things.

The author wrote this article to tell us don't Jugde people by how they look or act because they can be different in the inside relating to the reference "don't judge a book by its cover". 2.

Everybody is subconsciously selfish, greedy and egoistical. Though there might be some people in this world who aren't, you might think you're one of them but it might just be that you haven't noticed it yet. People make choices depending on what is best in the situation at a given time. For instance even if you are being generous, it could be because you're trying to show someone that you're a good person. Or because you know you'll receive some sort of payment in the end. The way you show yourself now is most likely the opposite of who you truly are. However children and teenagers still haven't found or reached who they are or who they want to be. Everything you do shows who you truly are in the inside and although you may not think so everybody wears a mask that they hide behind. In the author's case he thought himself as superior and hid from himself to cover jealousness that he had for the Tomkey's and selfishness that he didn't realize at the moment. He didn't want to share his candy because subconsciously he thought that they had enough already due to the fact that they had something he didn't have.
I could probably make many connections to my real life but I would rather not and making a connection on somebody else's expense even though they might not even remember me is "selfish"

I agree with the author because we shouldn't judge people on how they look hut who they are and not on a scale of "They are good because of(appearance, popularity, etc...) but "They are good because they have a good heart and are good people"
