These books show the moment where he has the realization of what he needs to do.

He has just met Athena and she is convincing him to fight for what he wants, which is

his father to be at home with him. Telemachus then helps fight off some of the suitors

for the time being to keep his mother safe. He defends his father and shows that he

does indeed have some feelings towards his father. After making up his mind and

receiving a sign from Zeus (a pair of eagles), he then tells his maid that he is going to

go out to Pylos and Sparta in search for his father's whereabouts.

In these two books, Telemachus shows a much higher level of understanding. He starts to develop a sense of maturity and is taking action for all that he does. He's responsible and he starts to stand up for what he believes. Multiple times, Odysseus (Telemachus' father) refers to him as 'clear-headed Telemachus' meaning that he was solid in what he wanted, humble and also willing to work.

These two books mainly talk about Telemachus' journey in search of his father's

whereabouts. Much of this is without his mother's knowledge. First, he goes to

approach Nestor about Odysseus and where is he, but instead is told the story of

tragedy Agamemnon (who was murdered) and Menelaus. So Telemachus being the

smart one, decides to visit Menelaus. Like Nestor, Menelaus shows great hospitality.

King Menelaus proceeds to tell Telemachus the stories of his father's greatness and

confirms that Odysseus is indeed still alive. The suitors back at the house along with

Penelope find out that Telemachus is finally returning. Penelope is nervous and

mourns for what the suitors plan to do, which is to ambush him when he returns.

In these two books, Telemachus finds out more about his father. Not necessarily all about his whereabouts, but also about the type of guy that he is: cunning, charismatic, and smart. Telemachus does not show many instances of increased maturity in these two books, but he does show a sense of passion for finding his father and a new found respect for the gods. His hate in the suitors only grows and he grows to be more confident in what he wants and how he wants to get it.
