Zeus chose the sky, Poseidon got the sea, and Hades got the underworld. Poseidon really likes the sea. But he was greedy and aggressive. Once he claimed Attica as his own, stabbed his trident into hillsides, the salt water got everywhere. The people of Athenes did not want to belong to Poseidon, and the kingdom of sea. They prayed for another god, Athena heard them. She planted an olive tree by the side of spring. Poseidon was really mad. He challenged Athena, she accepted. Zeus and the other gods sat in council to hear the rival claims. After hearing Athena and Poseidon, they all vote for Athena. They all think that her olive tree was a better gift. Poseidon also fall in love with Demeter. Demeter also fell in love with him, but she was afraid of him. She wants Poseidon to give her a gift, she wants a beautiful land animal. Poseidon made a horse. Demeter really like it. But when Poseidon made the horse , he also like it. So he forget about Demeter and spend lots of time making horses. He threw lots of them away, but he did not kill it.
