ASSALAMUALAIKUM & HELLO! I am a Professor of Food Technology at the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and current Director of Centre for Academic Excellence (CDAE), USM.

I've been teaching for almost 24 years. I'm very passionate about learning and education. I believe our role as educators goes beyond transmitting knowledge — our role is to nurture our students, the future nation builders, to become lifelong learners — to teach them the skills of 'learn how to learn' and to teach them the appreciation and the love for knowledge.

As Socrates said, I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think.

More about my teaching & research here:
http://www.profkarim.com/

My blog:
http://onestoplearning.blogspot.com/

I am not quite comfortable with the word "teach". To "teach" means taking the position that the other person (students) are incapable, lacking wisdom and knowledge, while the "teacher" claims higher authority over those that he or she teaches. Therefore, for me, I like to see "teaching" as collaborative: both teacher and students having something to contribute (maybe the teacher having more due to experience), but students and teacher working together to create knowledge that is beneficial to both.

Tagline: What kind of knowledge?

We should never look to the current generation teaching approach same as the old generation. Nowadays, technology governs everything and education should not be exempted. students have the advanced technology and use social media almost in every task, why not the education be the same. Also, we should trust our students' self-learning capacities but keep providing them with the correct materials and directions.

At the end, I hope that I will learn how to practice the flipped classroom and the adjusting of the current materials and content to be used.

Tagline: we should trust our students' capabilities.

Hello there. My name is Mohd Noh Karsiti. I am currently a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Ynuversiti Teknologi Petronas. I have been with UTP since 1999. Prior to UTP, I was a lecturer at USM Perak Branch Campus.
Like most lecturer, I had never had the opportunity to prepare ourself as a teacher. Thinking that being a lecturer is easier as we deal with adult learners, I felt confidence in getting my feet wet. Over the years, I learned more from making mistakes and learning from others. Later in my career only we get the chance to relook at the way we impart knowledge. Innitiatives such as OBE approach and now Active Learning initiatives championed by UTP does make some difference. The challenge remains on how ready are we.

After all the fundamental objective in T & L is that the knowledge/experience/'nasihat' is effectively imparted and well understood by the learner. I believe this new technology will further enhance the transfer of the 'ilm' (knowledge etc) with more lively interaction between the learner and the 'gurus'.

-a practiced taught 'ilm' with 'lillahi'- an eternal rewards ever-

At that time I was only a trainee lecturer. I was not equipped with the right tools to teach and I felt quite frustrated about it. Recent move by UTP to setup CeTAL is very much welcome.
