Despite his asthma, Teddy was energetic and mischievously inquisitive. It is in his early years, at the age of 7, that his lifelong interest in zoology began after he saw a dead seal at a local market. Teddy also found that physical exertion helped with his asthma and began a heavy regime of exercise.
Roosevelt was mostly home schooled by his parents and various tutors. Due to his homeschooling, Teddy was left with insufficient knowledge in both mathematics and classical languages. Teddy went on to go to Harvard and graduated with a bachelor of arts in 1880. In edition his mother died 11 hours earlier. 
Second Marriage - On December 2, 1886 Roosevelt married his childhood and family friend Edith Kermit Carow. Appointed to the United States Civil Service Commission by Harrison where he severed until 1895. He continued to fight corruption and specifically the spoils system from his new position. 
In 1894, Roosevelt was offered a position on the board of the New York City Police Commissioners. Roosevelt became president of the board of commissioners and radically reformed the police force.
Became Assistant Secretary of the Navy in 1896, appointed by McKinley. Called for the build up of the Navy, particularly for the build up of battleships. Secretary of the Navy, John D. Long, left many major decisions up to Roosevelt. Following the explosion of the USS Maine in Havana, Roosevelt(without approval from Long or McKinley) sent orders for several ships to prepare for war. 
In 1898, Roosevelt won the election to become Governor of New York. Learned about trusts, monopolies, and other factors that later affected his presidency. Roosevelt also held twice daily press conferences, an innovation at the time.
McKinley's vice president during his second term as president. After McKinley's assassination, became president.

2. During the Spanish-American war, Roosevelt quit his position as the Assistant Secretary of the Navy to serve in an elite volunteer cavalry unit know as the Rough Riders. 
3. Roosevelt was shot during a speech in 1912 while campaigning for his reelection. His steel glasses case and once folded 50 page speech where hit by the bullet and slowed the bullet down enough it didn't cause any significant damage. Roosevelt went on to continue giving his speech for 90 minutes.
