Screencastify

Oh my! When it comes to Google, I could share so many different things. However, one of my "can't live without it" favorites is Screencastify. This is a Google Extension. It is a screen capture program where you can make videos of what is on your screen. It can record just your voice, or a little webcam video of you. I use this tool for many reasons.
1. To give multi-step directions. That way if a student is absent, or just needs the directions again, they can watch the video.
2. Sub plans - students just watch and follow the steps.
3. "Independent Days." Students have a video to watch with directions and then complete the task. While they do that, I can pull students to work one on one. We have to practice this a lot, but by spring, they are usually pretty independent at this.
4. To be my own co-teacher... Students watch the video and I walk around during instruction (while I am giving the instruction on the video). I can behavior monitor, answer questions, and more without disrupting the 'teaching.' Kim Watson
