The little screens that were suppose to bring us together by making it easier to communicate has actually caused us to prefer life behind a screen instead of taking in what is around you. The article includes comments from students saying that their parent hardly look up from their phones long enough to talk about their day. The article also mentions that people are often found others around them staring at their phone and tend to do the same either self consciously or to avoid interactions with others and making and awkward situation. So this shows that because of technology, it becomes our natural instinct to stare at our phones and screens causing us to be more isolated from those around us.

Technology was cool at first but how bad is it really? The article talks about how now eighth graders who spend 10 or more hours on social media are 56% more likely to be unhappy than the kids who go on technology less. Technology causes isolation which causes apathy. Teens who spend more than three hours on technology have a 35% higher risk of suicide in the future than the teens who spend their time wisely.

The survey showed that people who spend more than 2 hours a day on social media question why they're being left out when people who spend less time on social media don't feel the same way. People that spend more than 2 hours of time on social media per day have twice the odds of perceived social isolation. People who visit social media over 58 times a week are three times the odds of perceived social isolation. This article gives a good argument to why technology causes isolation.

The writer writes that his social media keeps articles from him because he dislikes one. It won't pop up so he can't see anything that the phone or app thinks he doesn't want to see. Because of this he was oblivious to news around him. Technology, though we use it to find things out, can also he us ignorant to other things.

They say if you go back in time, parks were filled with kids playing and laughing and having fun, but now parks are silent. 75% of kids wake up in the morning and look at their phone for the first thing in the day. A study showed that they took technology away from kids for 24 hours and the kids felt lonely and didn't know what to do with their time. A study also shows that kids often have arguments online or crude remarks (roasting) online, this can cause physical violence later or low self-esteem for young kids which hurts them later in life. This article shows a good insight that we should get kids outdoors more and away from technology for a little bit in the day.

An example used was airplanes and how they were once places where there was no technology, and all you could do was read or sleep. But nowadays, you see people playing video games, watching movies, or using their smartphones all the time on planes. There's been a lot of attention towards how technology takes everyone's attention away from the real world and ruining relationships between one another. A study had also been shown that people would rather shock themselves than sit still in a room alone.

Studies show that this might be because of lack of interaction between one another. Millions of people around the world use social media everyday to communicate with friends and family. Yet social media isn't that social. NPR's social science correspondent Shankar Vedantam also believes that our online lives don't match up with our real ones.

They ask "With the world at our fingertips, are we losing sight of the places outside of our windows?" Which is a good question because we really don't pay attention to the things happening around us. People also have less family time because teenagers are involved in their phones, that just shows they are isolated and are ignorant.
