Specialized Academic Instruction is where students receive Special Education services. Some students who need are in their general education class for less than 50% of their school day are considered SDC (Special Day Class) where they spend a majority of their day in a special education class. This is due to disability and what the student can do. If a student is generally 2 grade levels behind and cannot function with out a paraprofessional then they are placed in special education with a certifies teacher. Some students get pushed-in to their general education class for different times of their day with a paraprofessional or instructional aide. This where Least Restrictive Environment is more restrictive.
