The rainfall slows, 

Staring through windows,

Vacant eyes watch,

While their minds decompose,

“Idleness is bliss”

And their minds dismiss

The notion of being more

Empty brains, their deep abyss

Instinctively click “next episode,”

Fighting the next episode,

No effort to improve

Letting themselves implode

The rainfall quickens,

Their minds grow sickened

Of the inactivity, 

Full potentials kick in.

“They must get out!”

Their brains shout,

And they leap up from the chair,

Combating doubt

At last transcending,

Never again pretending

Inspired by the poets

Their minds mending.

My poem tells the story of a man who was mentally asleep, content with letting life live him. My poem follows the rhyme scheme of Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening." He is watching the rain through a window, and as the rain speeds up, he is finally inspired to be more. No longer will he sit back and watch society, he will become an active participant. Carpe Diem!
