My first rotation in internship was in the department of pediatric general specialist, I found myself really well, I was with a very nice nurse who knew how to guide me right away on the procedures I had to perform for withdrawals, He even made me take two withdrawals because he saw me very confident. I made my first stomach tube bolus to a girl with eating disorders. I went into the rooms to check vital signs like saturation, pressure, temperature, and in the meantime, I was able to socialize a lot with the patients. I helped my tutor on every occasion, trying to make myself as useful as possible. I felt very satisfied, because I like to help the children who are in the hospital and if sometimes with those chats you know that you can make them smile there is no better feeling.

What makes a good nurse is the evaluation of the patient in the human aspect, not only in the physiological aspect. It is important to have good communication with parents by explaining the nursing procedures that they should do to their children, just to reassure them. Empathy is absolutely necessary to understand the patient and their families. It is certainly very important to apply patient identification labels on the drugs that are administered to that particular patient, on blood test tubes, urine and faeces. Sometimes it is also important to perform a proper identification of the patient with name, surname and birth and immediately put on the patient once received at the department the identification bracelet. It is certainly important that the nurse is always polite and kind to family members and patients. I personally do not know if I will be a good nurse, but I am sure that at the end of the third year I will have enough knowledge to become one.

My tutor’s personality was very sunny, friendly, explained and performed nursing procedures on patients well and he was also very empathetic, every time he entered the room he always made a joke to cheer up parents and children. It helped me a lot to acquire the safety in the department and fact the thing that I admired my tutor was the sympathy, security and simplicity with which he performed certain procedures, I hope one day to become so too.

After the triennial I would like to become a clinical tutor, because I know how difficult the beginning of the internship can be, since the trainees feel scared, do not feel able and are afraid to be a burden for the nurse. By being a tutor I could help other future nurses who have felt like this, as I did. Because, in my opinion, with the right tutor and a great push they can grow and improve. In the end, what would be useful to an intern is to have a person who believes in him and his abilities, for this I would like to become a clinical tutor.

One day in the rheumatology ward, while I was walking around patients to measure their vital parameters, I entered a patient’s room and while I was measuring his pressure, the boy’s mother says to me: 'Hi, honey, I wanted to tell you that since we’re coming home tomorrow, my son has a gift for you.'
