I find basic history  dry and boring. However, when investigating topics that applied to me I was much more intrigued and willing to learn.

During this assignment, I learned lots about my German background. I can now relate to my family in a better away. I liked this assignment because I got to know my grandparents, aunts and uncles better. I rarely see them or even speak to them. Next time I see them, I look forward to learning more about them. By taking better care of our histories we’re able to learn so much more about our selves and those that came before us. Even though my history is very limited, I think this may also help with my own sense of empathy. Some people don’t have long reasons for doing what they do, and to those people I can relate. This project was a fun one to do, as we got to learn the deep history of ourselves, some of which I knew, some of which I didn’t. I learned interesting things like how my grandfather was a chemist during WWII, and I learned how my great grandfather was forced into working within the first week of arriving in Canada (at just 13 years old).
