Racism is relevant for everyone. It´s a topic that needs to be taken seriously, it separates people and harasses those who are innocent. In the short story “The New Girl”, from 2001, we are introduced to three characters, one who is the new girl, and also black. She is begging treated unfairly simply because of her skin color. Allison is being influenced by her parents for the racist way she acts, while our protagonist can´t lose her only friend, and is forced to stay silent about the situation, even though she feels uncomfortable.

By Fredrik og Selma

Introduction

People being judged by their skin color is something no one should ever have to experience in our modern society. Many people have been badly influenced by their parents or grandparents from older generations to possess this view on colored people, and some have even learned from their mistakes and have become much more openminded. That is something Mark Mitchell portrays perfect in the short story “The new girl”.

More than 150 years after the 13th amendment abolished slavery in the Unites States most U.S adults say the legacy of slavery continues to have an impact on the position of black people in American society today. The New Girl is written by Marc Mitchell in 1967. We are introduced to the environment and the two children, Paul and Allison. Throughout the story we begin to realise the importance of the environment as it shows the way children have been indoctrinated by their parents, which is portrayed by Allison.

Many black people have experienced racism in their lifetime. It has definitely gotten better through the years, but it’s still a big problem. In Marc Mitchells short story, “the new girl”, from 2001, we are introduced to three characters, one of which is black, one of which is racist and lastly our main character. Through an analysis of Allison, our main character and the new girl, it becomes clear that the racism the new girl experiences from Allison, puts our main character in a dilemma. He wants to stop the racism, but he also still wants to be friends with Allison.

Many people have either expirienced, or know someone who has acted racist. Of course rasism is not okay, but back in the old days it was normalised for white people to look down on black people.

The short story is called “The New Girl,” and is written by Marc Mitchell from 2001

We are introduced to the Narrator, the friend Allison, the new girl, and the parent. Through the story, we learn how the main character regrets how they never did anything to correct Allison on what she said to the new girl. They still regret it to this day.

Are our parents the ones who define us?That’s something we read about in the short story “The New Girl” Here we have Allison who see color as differences in status, and her parents is the one to blame. Cause we are not born a racist, we learn to be one.We meet the characters in the start of the story. There’s Paul (our narrator) and Allison. They are friends and live in the same neighborhood. Later in the story Paul mentions that he and Allison is barely friendsBecause they’re the only kids on the street.

Introduction

Most people have witnessed or experienced racism. Even though racism has toned a lot down since back then, it’s still a worldwide problem. In this case we have to go back a few years. In the story “The new girl” written by Norman Rockwell from 1967, racism is the conflict. We are introduced to three characters, one of which is black and therefore the victim in this story. We only really get the name of one character, Allison, whom are the villain in this story. Them we have the main character, which is the narrator. Through the story, we see how parents’ opinions inflict on children. How easily we are manipulated when where young. How the social hierarchy makes people do/say things they regret And how the common society viewed the black community back then.
