One thing I learned about curriculum is that it is based on many things, not what just what students should learn, like the core subjects. Curriculum is based on many other things and influenced by societal pressure on what is acceptable. Aside form the many factors that play into curriculum, There are many different types of curriculums as well.

I found it interesting that there are many different textbooks or resources teachers can use to teach specific curriculum standards but might be comfortable with one they've used for a long time and this may not give students a more present or comprehensive learning of certain subjects. I also loved to see how helpful labs really are for students!

One thing I learned that I found interesting is the definition of curriculum changes depending on the context it is used in. Overall there are three types of "curriculum": the actual knowledge being shared, the planned experiences, and the overall experiences of the student.

What stood out the most for me is the hidden curriculum. I am able to see some small positive things my old 2nd graders do that I used to do in class. I just did not realize how attentive they can be to an educator's organization style. My desk was a HOT MESS 2019-2020 year! That is definitely something I want to work on since we are returning to in person soon.

I have learned that Common Core was something that initially had the right idea when it came to having a curriculum where teachers can guide the students to learn. I also learned that Some people believe that common core might not be the greatest thing to happen to the education system. But the idea was there I believe that it can be better improved to help our students improve and have higher expectations.

I learned that their are two forms of curriculum that is learned by students. Explicit curriculum is the intentionally taught information that is learned. Hidden curriculum are behaviors and information that is unintentionally learned. Null curriculum is information and behaviors that is not learned at all. I found hidden curriculum to be very important. The attitude of a teacher or small references to unrelated things can influence the academic success in students.

I do hope that testing continues to stray away from standardized testing, and I also hope that by the time I am teaching my own classroom, I will be able to create intriguing and engaging lessons for the kids that focuses on learning rather than testing.
