Trickle Across Reflection: Menswear by Carly Gaenzle

Evaluating 3 different designers collections, Paul Smith London, Vetements, and Winnie NY, and how they infuence the way men dress, through trickle aross theory. I think that fashion trends are sent in waves equally across social classes for menswear.

A newer brand, launching in 2018 has been known for high quality pants in specific, and to merge modern and classic design. The collection was full of sophisticated looks that were intended to give an 'intelligent' look. Nearly every model was given glasses to add to the book, and the show was in the American Library in paris. Colors were brown, red, green etc and all colors were muted with the exception of the bright contruction yellow laces of the black hoka sneakers most models wore.

PAUL SMITH LONDON

Paul is known to draw inspiration from everything and anything, all that is around him and within. This collection reflects the same aesthetics as other S/S collections in menswear did this season. Lots of dark colors with pops of detail in bright yellows or reds. The incorporation of sneakers and more casual shoes with more 'business' clothes and vice versa. Paul Smith incorporates a few more brighter options, but the concept of mixing casualwear and sophistication is evident. You see lots of suits and jackets mixed with streetwear.

Vetements further showcases the relaxed look to a more extreme sense, but you still see the mix of sophistication. With darker/muted colors as well as pops of bright within details or a few looks that are meant to stand out. In the Photo below of the red set, you can see how similar the concept is to that of the red velour set that was in the Winnie NY collection, even to the point of how they were styled for the show. Demonstrating how solidified the trends for menswear are this season.

The brands mentioned are clearly doing there own thing in some aspects, they are creating new looks that will influence consumers and other brands to follow in their footsteps. However these brands are also following trends that were set by society, being confortable and etc. They are both setting and following trends, which is why I think that the trickle across theory fits best. Fashion trends are moving rapidly across socioeconomic classes rather than down or up. Peers set the trend for other peers. Fashion Brands set trends for other brands, and consumers set trends for consumers and they travel across.
