I agree with Rodrigo, getting to know students at the beginning of the year is key. They also want to get to know you, so share about yourself occasionally as well. I especially like sharing about my experiences living as an expat in Southeast Asia with my students. Some of my experiences are very similar to those of our residential students and they get to realize that they are not alone in their experience. of being in a new place and different culture.
With 'get to know you' activities at the beginning of the year modeling the end result with examples of how you spent your summer is a great way to share a bit about yourself with the kids.
-Chelsea
