They are called victory mansions; however, they are old and worn down flats. This is important to the story because it is one example of how the government is manipulating their lives.<br><strong>Diary</strong>- In 1984, Winston breaks the law by writing in a diary. This is important because it shows Winston's nonconformity to the government run society. <br><strong>Hanging</strong>- The Hanging is an event that happens once a month where Eurasian prisoners were hanged in a park for the public to see. This is significant because the kids find it amusing and exciting because the government has brainwashed them.<br><strong>Memory</strong>- This is important to the novel because Winston struggles with remembering his childhood, life before Oceania was established.
