I believe that we should not be paired with other departments when making quarterlies and such. We follow their pacing charts, but not at their pace. We can use the tests and edit them, but we need to make many adjustments

Did not find working with the English very helpful. I think the standards are pretty self-explanatory, so "unpacking" them is redundant for me. I would rather discuss lessons others are doing that are aligned with the standards.

Working with the Math Department is difficult, because we are not on the same "pace" as they are. I would love to get training on the "chrome" books : )

We discussed how the history dept. all worked together to combine resources to help each other with SGO's.

I prefer working within our department with my fellow math teachers. I think they give me great suggestions and understand our student population.

I didn't get very much out of unpacking the standards with the English department. I would prefer to hear about lessons others are doing according to the standards, rather than "unpacking" them

I found that working in content specific groups with only Chemistry teachers helpful as we divide up the work so that we can unpack more as a whole. However, I am still a bit unsure as to the overall goal of we are doing and how it can be transferred into my daily practice.

It helps with breaking down what they want us to teach.

Its easy to unpack the standards in a PD session but difficult to apply it in the classroom as your planning on a weekly basis. No all teachers are trained in backwards planning.

we worked on breaking down the standards, I liked it because it helped me figure out how to actually teach it, and not make it so intimidating. I would like to do more planning within my SS crew :)

Science Dept has unwrapped new standards and has worked on on-line resources that can be downloaded via Google Docs. Working with our content (Sci Dept) works for me.....

I feel that I didn't get anything useful from the meetings with the Math Department. At times I got the feeling that they didn't want us there and ignored us. They also discussed "department" issues and other department business.

I feel working with the ISSD group would be better

Breaking down the CCS was an important part of our jobs that we are responsible for. We have practiced this a few times already. SGO's seem to be alot of work and not sure that there is a big difference between IEP goals and SGO goals?

I feel that working with the English Dept. was helpful, considering I am to follow the Gen. Ed. curriculum. I get an opportunity self-check my work, making sur that I am aligned with them (English Dept.).

I didn't gain any new insight from unpacking workshops in the past but I am doing some research on my own and trying to find "user-friendly" aligned and activities to use with my ISSD students.

I did not think it was useful to unpack the CCS. I thought that the part of the handout where we discussed how to use a standard in a lesson was helpful. However, the other boxes that we were asked to complete on the handout were not very relevant. I would prefer to look at the specific standards that we are using in the curriculum unit and work on planning effective lessons with those standards.

Some departments are working diligently to break down the new Common Core Standards and with the formation of SGO's that address certain skills our students will need while in High School. So it helps us teach for both short-term and long-term content knowledge. Also, there are lots of resources online that help teachers give Pre-Assessments that are already content-specific (like NY Regents Exams) which can be downloaded and shared via Google Docs by Department.
