Migration is just as sad as it is inspiring. After watching the video I’m beginning to realize that they’re probably more immigrants around the world than I thought. As for the reasons people cross borders, they seem reasonable and expected. More than anything, the videos I watched this lesson reminded me how lucky we are to be Israelis, and how unbearably hard it must be for refugees.

The videos talk about the main reasons for migration (war, economic conditions and enviornment).
What was interesting to me is what I can infer from the second video, which is that migration might contribute to the deepening the inequality between countries. It seems that most refugees migrate to the less developed countries (making them potentially poorer) whereas most immigrants that migrate due to ecocnomic reasons migrate to the more developed countries (potentially making them richer).

The migration described in these clips is out of necessity, whether finacial or purely to survivs. This situation, where people are more-or-less forced to leave their home country, is terrible. I think that the difference between what the leaders of the receiving countries say in public, as opposes to what most of the population of these receiving countries feel towards the immigrants - is sad. I think that we can't ignore the fact that it's the stronger immigrants who "make-it". the weaker ones can't leave. or unfortunately die on the way.

It is imperative to understand the different reasons as to why people migrate. Sometimes it is to escape a certain arduous situation such as a war, but other times it is simply an ambitious desire to upgrade one's economic and social opportunities. Depending on your age, it might be simply because you would like your children to have and experience more than you did, from every standpoint. Nevertheless, migration is never an easy task and one needs to consider all the pros and cons before uprooting one's entire family. Unless, again, there's really no alternative and that is always heartbreaking.

Perhaps this isn't the response you're seeking, but I'd imagine that my students would also point to COVID-19 being the big world crisis when just a couple of years ago it was the mass migration to Europe. The second thing that struck me about the clip is the massive scale of misery which war has wrought upon the world, including pushing these migrants away from their homes, towns and everything they've known and loved.

There are various reasons why people migrate, whether it be voluntary or involuntary. If we talk about voluntarily, people migrate for different reasons such as economic, war, natural disasters, in order to escape persecution or just have a better life for monetary reasons. This causes conflict with residents of the countries where migrants flee, leading some residents to migrate voluntarily to different countries, due to a perceived threat. What struck me was that it is ok for the voluntary migrants to migrate, whereas they have issues with the involuntary migrants arriving in their home countries.

People either migrate because they have to or because they want to. In the first category, the "push" migrations, occur due to wars, persecutions and genocides, and natural disasters. These people rightly fear for their lives, and are refugees who deserve to be helped. The other type, the "pull' migrations, happen when people do not fear for their lives but want to improve them. These are economic migrants. P
roblems sometimes arise when economic migrants demand to be recognized as refugees.

People leave their countries for 3 major reasons:
1. escape war and persecution 2. economic opportunities 3. the envoirnment (natural disasters etc.)
A person who migrates undergoes a huge change- he grows up as a person and learns to be tolerant with other cultures. The same happens with his new" homeland". Majority of the migrants suffer a lot and live in very bad conditions. Some of them die on their way. I worked with my 11th graders on a project, where we came across the issue of forced migration and I wish I had found these two videos to show them. I have taken two things from watching these movies:
1. That anyone, at any time, may be forced to migrate, abandoning his homeland, family and friends in the hope of finding a safer and better future.
2. Even within the 3 main causes for migration, there are many varients, which are interesting to learn about and make the entire issue that much more complicated.
Both videos made me think of how much worse it has all become for refugees now with COVID-19 shutting all borders in their faces.

Some people choose to migrate to another country to enhance their career opportunities. Some people are forced to migrate, others and according to the videos who move due to war and persecution. War and persecution will always be the major reasons for the people to escape and migrate to developed countries. I believe that those people should stay in their own countries and fix their problems. Furthermore, their issues should be addressed because displacements are not the solution and they need to make their own country better instead of running to countries that might not want them.

There are different reasons to force people migrate. The first logical reason is war- people everywhere seek safety and stability. Other reasons might be related to job opportunities or economical situations. The videos were interesting- I think students will have many things to say after watching them. As I see it, the videos present the reasons beyond migration. People migrated because of war and persecution. They gave up their homeland, families and belongings in order to seek a safe place for their future. I strongly believe that migration is a solution to severe problems that can not be solved. If people can have a chance to have a better future somewhere else on this planet, so why not migrate to find it.

The two things that I learned from the videos are that, firstly even in so called wealthy countries, many young people, up to about 30% can be unemployed and feel the need to move to live in another country because of this. Secondly, the other major point which I took with me was that migration is more that just the idea of moving place it involves the concept of accepting different cultures and people. Many western countries are reluctant to open their doors to immigrants.

It seems that immigration as a human reaction to weather catastrophes, war zones and economic crises is a pervasive phenomena in the world. In these two video clips we have seen how vast numbers of people leave everything behind and head to richer and more stable countries in the hope of improving (sometimes saving) their lives and the lives of their children. In many cases these people have nowhere to go back to as they are persecuted in their homelands. There is no debate as to the tragic and misery these people had endured. That being said, in my opinion, these videos ignored the challenges and difficulties which receiving great numbers of immigrants pose to a county. What are the financial and social costs of integrating them? These are aspects that maybe should be discussed in class.

The second thing I take is the thought of flexibility that was raised at the end - If we have a more flexible aproach towards migration, could we reduce conflict?

The first thing I take from them is the understanding that migration is and may always have been an integral part of human habitation. Nationalism and economic; factors can hinder migration, but the video shows that democratic and humanistic values can make it work. The second thing I thought about was how there is a fourth reason for migration, which is ideology, like the migration of Jews to Israel. It may not be a very common reason but it comes with its own difficulties and it is worth mentioning.

We all talk about it also in the Israeli context, the legality and illigality of the phenomnon, but we don't quite grasp its intensity.
The second thing that I take from these clips is that they didn't mention another reason for migration, which is nationalism.

People have always migrated and in recent years more and more people are migrating due to circumstances they cannot control such a wars or natural disasters. There is a huge difference as I see it between people who seek opportunity for a better future but have an alternative to return to and people who fled their homeland due to poverty, war or other natural disaster.

The videos give a very succinct picture of why people migrate. Today I think another reason why people leave would be for health reasons. There seems to be a growing migration of people seeking better health care. Years ago people left Israel because they felt they could get better care for loved ones with polio. Today people are migrating to seek cures for various diseases.

One of the most common reasons people leave their country to immigrate is the need to find a safe surrounding for them. Individuals, who live in war- torn countries like some parts of the Middle East, feel the need to immigrate to get away from the fighting and to escape danger. While the reasons to move may seem different, everyone that move and take the step to immigrate do it to improve their lives. Moving to a new country isn’t an easy process, and can be stressful and even dangerous.

I am reminded of an old song that says "There but for fortune may go you or I" Some people are forced to migrate and have no choice. Some migrate to better their lives or the lives of their children. Some migrate not to better their lives or the lives of their children but to make those lives bearable. We don't know when/if it will happen to whom.

Two things I'm taking from this video clip:
1. People don't usually immigrate because everything is ok in their life. Something very intense or important had happened to force them to leave their homes and familiar environment and move to a different country with very little property and money. I'm not referring to people who leave willingly in light of a better career options, but reasons like war, poverty, security and more.
2. Be kind to immigrants. You probably have no idea what its like to uproot your family and start from scratch.
