I’m originally from Bethel Park, PA, about thirty minutes outside of Pittsburgh. I moved to DC in
grade school and grew up there. I always loved Pittsburgh and loved spending my summers
and winters here, and knew it was where I wanted to be in college. It was fortunate that Point
Park also offered screenwriting, which is my major now!

As an RE, my big job is to act as a resource on campus for students. As a first year RE, I have
the great privilege of working with freshman students as they get acclimated to city life and
university life. Some of the things I do as an RE are attend weekly staff meetings, work office
hours, go on tour throughout the school year, and plan several different events for various
student populations. It’s also my goal to foster relationships with students on my floor, and be
able to answer questions and direct students to the appropriate resources when needed.

1. What do you like most about being a Resident Educator?

I love being such an involved member in the Point Park community. It’s so fun going to events
and helping plan and set up things for the students! I also love just getting to connect with new
people and help them!

2. What do you do to help yourself with time management?

That’s the million dollar question honestly. This is my first year as an RE, so getting adjusted to
a new schedule has been a great challenge for me. The biggest thing is having my calendar,
and writing down everything I have going on and when. I also am very big on To-do lists, even
just checking off the little things, really keeps me concentrated and motivated. Also taking every
moment of down time I have and doing something productive to me. So whether that’s an hour
in between classes to get some work done, or thirty minutes waiting for my laundry I can catch
up on sleep, just using every moment to do something I need to.

3. Why did you choose to become a Resident Educator?

So I had actually never thought about it before I had someone suggest that I apply. I was
supposed to be a Pioneer Ambassador last year but ended up not coming to school because of
Covid. But I really missed Point Park after taking my year off. I thought about all the events I
wish I’d gone to, or all the nights I wish I’d gone out, or all the friends I wish I could see, and just
really wanted to jump back in. I also love to help people, and I wanted to really have a hand in
guiding the first-year students this year, and being a resource for them. Students have no clue
how much the university cares, and I really wanted to be able to show them that.

4. How do you handle difficult situations/manage conflict?

I try to keep a very positive and open mind when approaching conflict. I think that confrontation
is too often viewed as just people fighting. I think if we just approach it with the mindset that it’s
an opportunity to both communicate your needs and understand how you can be better for
someone else, it would be a lot less scary. I’m very big on communication. If there’s an issue,
just talk through it. You’ll always be better off for it. Kindness and respect are also big for
resolving conflict successfully.

6. Why did you choose to come to Point Park University?

I grew up in Pittsburgh for the first chunk of my life. My whole family is here and it has always
felt like home, even after I moved to Virginia. I always knew I wanted to come back someday,
and I actually got to do a Screenwriting summer camp at Point Park my freshman year of high
school. In addition to that, my aunt was the photographer for the dance department for a long
time, so I would spend lots of time here helping her with photo shoots. It’s just the perfect place
for me!

I had a really good time interviewing my Resident Educator. I feel as though it got us one step closer to having a good resident educator and resident connection. Getting to know my resident educator Erin made it easier to have a conversation with her and to reach out to her if I am ever having a problem or just need someone to talk to that will listen.
