1.Identify the library you have selected (name, type, location) to evaluate and use for all of the course projects. 2. Identify the collection development librarian (name, title, where they work) who will be helping you. 3.Include a link to the library's website. If there is no website for the library, then use the link to its larger institution. 4.Describe what you hope to learn about this library (a bulleted list or 2-3 sentences). 5.Describe how selecting this library is important for learning about collection development (2-3 sentences is plenty). 6.Comment on two other classmates' posts.

Ron Epps, Reference and Print Resources Librarian at Wiggins Memorial Library, Campbell University.
4. I hope to learn about their acquisitions and selection process, especially from the perspective of a university librarian. It would be interesting to learn how much of the collection is physical and digital, and the difference in evaluating and selecting new physical resources compared to new digital resources. I would also like to learn what resources and materials students access and use most.
5. It would be beneficial to learn about the collection development and collection management procedure at this institution because it would help to gain insight into the process of selecting and maintaining relevant and useful materials for students and faculty. It would be important to see how librarians collaborate with and solicit faculty feedback in the collection development process, as they are experts in their subjects and know what resources will best compliment their curriculum.

This specific library is important for my learning because I live in Mooresville and I hope to continue building a career here. The knowledge I am gaining regarding the community demographics and how the library currently reflects the community needs through the collection will give me a valuable insight.

-Jenna Sackenheim

I hope to learn more about the age of the collection because Briarcliff is an older school. I would like to learn how to bring the age of the collection up to date and offer a variety of books that students K-5 will enjoy.
5. I selected this library primarily because I work in it and it will be directly beneficial for me to learn about the collection. I also want to make sure that the books being offered are what students are interested in.

Through this course I hope to learn were the strengths and weaknesses are in the library, what I can do to improve them and how to best utilize what is available to impact the students and staff in the most beneficial way. Our county received a grant to update our libraries, through this process I have had to hit the ground running with data analysis and collection development of my library. I am hoping that through this course I find out I was analyzing the data correctly!
5.Selecting this library is important for learning collection development because it is taking the library that I am going to be in charge of and not only learning the items needed in the class but how it will apply in my career.

2. Tom O'Connell, Tech Services and Collection Development Manager
4. Since I work here, I'd like to learn more about the selection process, as it has changed from branch librarian management to a more central collection development set up. I'd like to know how they're dealing with buying collections for the 8 branches to support each branch's individual demographic.
5. Public libraries are libraries that people are the most familiar with and I think are important because they're often a child's first experience with libraries and books beyond their homes. With all of the recent uptick in book banning and censorship, I think it's also more important than ever for library staff to have a good relationship with those in Collection Development (if they are indeed separate like in this system) during these times so that we can work together to provide neutral, nonpartisan collections to the public.
