Punjabi people believe that the universe was originally shaped like an egg, but then broke into two; one half became the sky and the other half became the earth. the thread veins in the egg became streams and rivers. The egg white took the shape of the sea and the yolk became the core of the earth.

Another belief is that the earth is balanced on one horn of a bull. If the bull ever gets tired, it changes over the weight to the tip of the other horn. even today, when there is an earthquake, the Punjabis say that the white bull has changed to the other horn.
