So we keep an eye out for them. It's not hard to spot them amongst all the modern cars. Mostly we saw the dull gunmetal grey (just like the one F has presently). I thought YUCK I've had enough sugar for today. To my surprise, Francis ordered one. It was SO GOOD! Not saturated with sugar either. The rim was dipped in a salt & chili pepper mix. The chips were gently seasoned with salt & chili pepper as well. The tacos were 5 star. It's perhaps a good trend in Portland because the next day we ate tacos at El Gallo Taqueria. Then it's time to head back to the birthplace & continue the cycle. This was a fascinating look at the egg gathering & inoculation, the nurseries, the fin clipping and the release chutes. That's rainbow trout -on the right- really only held there to show the tourists. ]]> 2017-07-21 22:23:34 UTC https://padlet.com/ganancj/Portland2017/wish/179208580 ganancj https://padlet.com/ganancj/Portland2017/wish/179208797 This was the most interesting of all....The fish swimming upstream the Columbia River had to contend with a human made, netted boundary which would hopefully direct them to these fish ladders. The ladders created a whitewater effect that the fish would either swim below or jump above. Two different designs of ladders are pictured here.  Not sure why there are two different methods. On the left and lower right are lampreys -- eel like creatures with just a few teeth. The lampreys and other migrating fish could be seen within the fish ladder from three underwater viewing windows. Serious forces of water would challenge these creatures in a mythical-you-can't-believe-it way. Yet right before your eyes, there they were swimming upstream (with a few lampreys stopping by to suck on the windows).
