The way he was describing things painted a vivid picture. The endless shaking down of clear bead necklaces upon the roof, the walk, the gardens, the forest, and their dreams were gone.

3. It would be boring.

1. The mood of part 1 is hopeful and happy. The word choice was "The children pressed to each other like so many roses, so many weeds . . ." It shows the kids getting excited to see that the rain would stop after 7 years.

2. He uses comparisons to make a vision in your mind of how the children were acting and how excited they were. ". . .like so many roses, so many weeds, intermixed, peering out for a look at the hidden sun."

3. We would be bored, the story wouldn't be interesting because it doesn't have comparisons to make a image in your mind, and it wouldn't have a mood.

The authors word choice gives it a dark setting. "a boom of thunder startled them and like leaves before a new hurricane, they tumbled upon each other and ran"

The author gives good descriptive language about the storm and you can almost vividly see it in your head." the sky darkened to midnight in a flash"

It would probably be a not so interesting story.

1. How does the author's word choice contribute to the mood of the story? (Describe and give an example from the story)

His/Her word choice contributes to the mood as the mood being kind of sad and emotional. " But she remembered and stood quietly apart from all of them and watched the pattering windows."

2. How does the author's word choice paint a picture in the minds of the readers? (Describe and give an example from the story)

The authors words paint a picture of a girl in a class room and all the kids being away from her, It paints a picture of a girl who is different and having a very sad moment."So after that, dimly, dimly, she sensed it, she was different and they knew her difference and kept away."

3. How would your perception/reaction to the story change without the descriptive word choice?

It would probably change because without the words things wouldn't seem as sad or emotional. It wouldn't feel like there is much truly happening.

1. The author's word choice made the mood of part 6 seem really optimistic compared to the rest of the story, because the kids were all excited to see the sun. An example of this was when the children said "Oh it's much better then the sun lamps, isn't it?" "Much much better!"

2. "and the jungle burned with sunlight, as the children, released from their spell, rushed out, yelling into the springtime". This paints a picture because it shows how the sun finally shining again made everything seem brighter, and the kids were excited to finally be out of the rain.

3. Without all the descriptive word choice, the story would be a lot more boring to read and it would've been harder to understand what the mood was.

"they searched about her, caught her up and bore her, protesting, and pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a room, a closet, where they slammed and locked the door.")

2. makes you feel like your there and one of the people (ex. They stood looking at the door and saw it tremble from her beating and throwing herself against it.)

3. it wouldn't seem so real

1. The word choice contributes to the mood of the story because of the descriptive words "Margot stood alone. She was a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years in the rain had washed out the blue....."

2. ......the rain had washed out the blue and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair" you can see that clearly in your mind.

3. If it didn't have the discriptive word choice you wouldn't be able to determine the mood of the story, so you wouldn't have as much as an emotional reaction.
