Only rich people could afford the baths in their house. The water was brought into it by a aquaduct. There were seperate baths for the men and women. The people went to the baths for fun too. When the roman empire spread the bath spread too. In this picture the roman bath is shown.

Aqueducts: An aqueduct is a means for transporting water through underground tunnel and man made structures usually using gravity. Some civilizations like the Greeks ancient Persia,India, and Egypt were using features of the aqueduct and using aqueducts before the romans , but it was the Romans who really took it to a new level. The Roman Army was responsible for building aqueducts in new areas and it spread throughout the Roman empire which was large.maintenance of the water was a daily task which was mostly done slaves and paid workers. At one point the aqueduct system supplied water to 1,000,000 Romans. The ancient civilization spread the technology to the romans who spread the technology by being a large empire so other civilization looked to them for the technology to build their aqueduct system, which spread it through the rest of the world.

http://www.unrv.com/culture/roman-aqueducts.php
