Alberta has a very unique geography to it. Alberta is a flat, fertile Province stretching 661,848 km in the western section of Canada. It also has a wide range of lakes and mountains. The Canadian Rockie Mountains are probably the most interesting. Ranging 3000 km from B.C to Alberta. The Rockies are massive and can attract a lot tourists, especially in the winter time when it gets a lot of snow. People can spend days up there skiing and snowboarding as much as they want. Alberta is also named the Wild Rose Country as the Province’s natural flower is the Rose, or the Rosa acicularis. A wild variation from the Rose Family of plants/flowers. Alberta is also known for the lakes and rivers. Some of the more popular lakes are the Lesser Slave Lake, a lake mostly in the Northwest Territories but bits of it stretch over into Alberta. Pigeon lake, a smaller lake that is common for families to do water sports or relax. The third river we have is Peace River. A 1,923 km long river that stretches from the town of Peace River down to lower Alberta. It is also home to the popular gathering event known as Peacefest. A 3 day event that celebrates things they are grateful for. Like job's, family, and overall peace Alberta's geography is very unique and unlike any other. While it's mostly flat. Ranges of mountains and sparkling lakes can be found. Next time your in Alberta make sure to check out the amazing geography.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mountains_of_Alberta

Today, Alberta has a huge amount of farmlands and rural landscapes. While driving along the major highways, you can go on for hours through the massive canola farms fields. When Alberta was founded in 1905, people thought it was a good idea to farm the huge flat landscape, but it was difficult. Alberta was a very dry province, so farming for some people was not good option to make a living. Other farmers didn't give up so easily, It took them months to invent the Industrial Irrigation System. They were huge sprinkler-like machines that take water from bigger water sources and spread it over acres of farmland. Its invention quickly spread through the Province and made many farmers lives easier. Soon, Alberta had more crops than they needed. So the Farmers trading Crops, livestock and dairy with neighboring Provinces. Farming in Alberta is unlike anywhere else. It has a rich and diverse blend of crops, livestock and dairy. We are lucky in Canada to have so many farmers working really hard to give us the best food they can

http://www.fwi.co.uk/livestock/2015-farmers-weekly-awards-dairy-farmer-year-finalists-revealed.htm

Alberta was founded on September 1st, 1905. It was named the Princess Province. It was named after Louise Caroline Alberta, the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria. When Alberta was founded it was ground zero for a massive immigration boom. Many people and families from Europe came to seek a safe province for them to call home. Many immigrants became farmers and shopkeepers. Others also became enrolled in politics and government. Alberta turned out to be a very successful Province.

https://www.assembly.ab.ca/lao/library/louise/canada.htm

While Alberta may appear to be mostly rural farming it also has a pretty big tourist industry. The Province has many interesting events and places to visit. You will never find the same place twice.

A common place to visit is the Drumheller Badlands. They are big ranges of soft rock and clay. The constant winds and waters have worn down the soft material making strange looking rock formations including Hoodoos, Ravines, Gullies and Buttes. There are also a few interesting places to visit in the Badlands. One of the most popular places to visit is The Drumheller Royal Tyrrell Museum, a huge dinosaur museum. Which is home to hundreds of extinct Dinosaur fossils and bones.

Alberta is also popular for their wild outdoor exhibits. One of the biggest events in the summer is The Calgary Stampede. A 10 day rodeo event that was nicknamed “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” The Stampede has a variety of events, including bull bucking, chuck wagon racing and lasso roping. My Dad’s second cousin is a chuck wagon racer and has won a few events during the Stampede over the years. Tourism in Alberta is very unique in the way in entertains. From the Badlands to the Stampede. Theirs nothing that wont quench your thirst for adventure.

http://www.eagle-eye.com/Alberta-Bird-Dinosaur-Tour

I find this province very interesting, mainly because my Dad was born in Red Deer and also lived in the City of Edmonton. As well my great Aunt and Uncle who own a farmland in Okotoks. I learned about Alberta’s rich agriculture history, First Nations and tourism destinations.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Alberta

Alberta has a very diverse scene of First Nations. The Bigstone First Nations were one of the first communities that appeared in 1905. Each tribe has their own unique population count. A common number is around 1500 for successful tribes, where other more endangered ones only have under 15. The tribes also have a very interesting blend of activities they like to do, an example of one is Pow-Wow Dancing. It's a First Nations dance event where family and friends from different communities join together to share many things. They share things like previous hunting trips, and news on family and friends. Another popular activity is hunting. It may not seem like a sport, but many First Nations think of it as a fun activity to feed their family. When they do catch an animal they make sure NO part of the animal goes to waste. Fur is turned into blankets and coats, bones are turned into handles for tools, and the meat is smoked or cooked and fed to the tribe. The First Nations are also masters of surviving the harsh winter conditions of Alberta. They like to make wood houses called Longhouses, which are made from oak wood. The wood acts as a thermal battery which gives off heat that keeps people warm throughout the night. They thought the wood would keep them warm enough but it didn't. They then decided to build small pit fires in their homes called Pit Fires. They are lit when the inhabitants go to bed and burn low and slow all night long. They give off a great amount of heat and when combined with the oak wood from the house frame, it keeps the people inside cozy all night long. When it comes to family activities and hunting. The First Nations group of people aren't very different from us. We both have our own similarity and differences, but its those things that make us ourselves.

http://www.gettyimages.ca/photos/longhouse?excludenudity=true&sort=mostpopular&mediatype=photography&phrase=longhouse
