Short term target - Goal 1: Researching how to make shorthand notes

According to University of Portsmouth (2021), many people spend time writing out full sentences and long phrases in lectures or during their research. It can be difficult to keep up with your lecturers when you do this, and you might miss key information. Meanwhile, some people note down key words and phrases and struggle to understand their notes later. Writing notes this way is known as note taking.

Three abbreviation techniques

1. Use the first few letters of the word

Use just enough to remember what the abbreviation stands for. Ensure that there are enough letters to prevent confusion between other words with the same first letters.

For example:

imp for ‘important’

info for ‘information’

eval for ‘evaluation’

dev for 'development'

gov for 'government'

2. Use initials for phrases

Examples:

UP for 'University of Portsmouth'

RS for 'reflective skills'

LG for 'local government'; NG for 'national government

3. Remove all (or most of) the vowels from the word

Use just the key consonants bunched together.

For example:

mngmt for ‘management’

mkt for ‘market’ (and mkting for ‘marketing’)

dvpt for ‘development’

(University of Portsmouth, 2021)

Short term target - Goal 2: Recording lecturers speaking about the required information whenever possible

My second short term goal was to record lecturers when dictating important information, this was to have the desired effect of improving my note taking, as well as my understanding of the coursework I am required to complete. I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia at an early age and as such, am very well aquainted with its merits and pitfalls. Through the development of this goal I have realised that I find it much more effective listening to information being spoken to me and not tangling myself up with taking notes, my solution to this is to record the spoken information in audio logs for me to then make regular notes with upon relistening later. Freeing my attention in the present up adequately enough for me to somewhat understand the basics of the information.

To design my workout plan I used the website 'Strongr Fastr', this allowed me fill in my desired settings and choose the plan that best suited my time frame, needs, and skill level. I chose the plan 'Three day full body' as it immediately stuck out to me as the most appropriate of the list.
(Strongr Fastr, 2022)

In this first gym session week I was completing 'Full Body A', three days a week I began with a strength test to aquaint myself with the equipment and warm up, then once aquainted I did 3 sets of 8 reps of Low bar squat, followed by 3 sets of 8 reps on bench press, followed by 3 sets of 8 reps of Pendlay row, followed by a superset of Barbell bicep curls and Dumbell lying tricep extensions with 3 sets of 12+ reps, finishing off with a Cable crunch on 3 sets of 12 reps. To cool down I did a series of stretches to improve flexibility. This first week wasn't without it's hiccups and struggles as familiarising myself with the routines and motions took a fair amount of time to get myself confident with.

In this second gym session week I was completing ' Full Body B', 3 days a week I began with the same initial strength test to aquaint myself with the equipment again and warm up, then once aquainted I did 3 sets of 8 reps of Deadlift, followed by 3 sets of 8 reps of Overhead press, followed by 3 sets of 8 reps of Lat pulldown, followed by a superset of Barbell bicep curls and Dumbell lying tricep extensions with 3 sets of 12+ reps. To cool down I did a series of stretched intended to improve my flexibility. This second week went much smoother as I was better aquainted with the gym setup and spacing as a whole, however this week knowing the anxiety struggles of trying to navigate a crowded gym, I was determined to do my sessions at times when the gym was much less busy, this attempt had varying levels of success.

To cool down I did a series of stretches to improve flexibility. This third week I especially started hitting my stride as I was confident enough with the movements needed in the free-weights by feeling the effected area and muscle grow tense seperately while lifting.
