UPDATE: Starting Fall 2026, CHEM 1130 and CHEM 1135 will be offered and will count as the required chemistry class for nursing.

Before you can take STAT 1040 (or 1045) and CHEM 1130, you’ll need to meet certain math prerequisites. Do you know what you need, and have you met those requirements yet? Use this guide to help map out your path and see your options for moving forward.

REMEMBER: You can get into these classes by completing the right math course or by earning a qualifying ALEKS, ACT, or SAT scores. Check the document above to see what scores you need for placement.

4-year Sample Plan

UPDATE: Beginning Fall 2026, CHEM 1130 and CHEM 1135 (lab) will replace CHEM 1110.

This 4-year sample plan outlines recommended courses each semester to meet prerequisite, general education, depth, and nursing major requirements. Your individual plan may vary depending on AP, dual/concurrent enrollment, or transfer credits.

Reminder: Meet with your academic advisor at least once each semester to review and update your plan. Course eligibility may differ based on prerequisites and prior credits. Note that CHEM 1130, STAT 1040, and STAT 1045 have prerequisite requirements (see Math and Chemistry pathways). Your advisor is an important resource to help you navigate and adjust your academic plan.

GPA and Grades

Many students wonder what GPA they should be maintaining and what grades they should be earning? It's typical for nursing students to have high GPA's and earn high grades.

The average GPA of students accepted into the nursing program are a 3.70 GPA (prerequisite coursework GPA is an average of 3.70)

Grades can vary but earning a A, A-, B+ are typical but having earned B or B- is also acceptable.
