Geography Research Qu: To what extend does GC support redrafting of extended writing?

This project has run since 27th Feb when my 9A2 class of 25 students got their Chromebooks. 3 students did not sign up for scheme, so when having GC lessons I book laptops/CB's for them to ensure they do not miss out. So far the quality of writing is vastly different. Simple lesson notes have more details, maps added, images, links to YT films about that topic. extended writing is better. Homework 9 markers were all higher scored for qu 'Extent to which UK is suffering Climate Change' when compared to Jan qu 'Extent to which Haiti's impacts were more severe'

RE: How can google quizzes help to improve GCSE results in year 11? Is there evidence of an improved understanding of the content by completing these quizzes?

Students have been set exam questions every 2 weeks via GC since January and multiple choice quizzes from September to February.
Pros: Easy to set in advance. Easy to see who has completed their work. Quizzes mark themselves. Exam questions can be returned with feedback. They can then respond with improvements. Less paper!
Cons: Makimg mistakes early on about how to share the exam questions and feedback (i.e.not knowing you need to return the work!)
To do: ask pupils to reflect on the usefulness of GC verses paper workbooks for HW revision.

We have come away from writing homework in planners and students are checking emails and their notifications on GC to see what the quiz set is each week. Although I encourage them to record what their hw is on paper, they are much more savvy with the technology, especially since the introduction of Chromebooks and they enjoy completing hw online and through their brand new devices. Students are conscientious and want to complete the quizzes to a high standard, rising attainment.

10 students in my class do not have chromebooks so there is a 50/50 split of students with chromebooks. Those that have them want to use them more in lesson with others sometimes opting for paper in Maths. GC tasks have mainly been homeworks so looking to try more GC tasks for classwork in lessons and GC quizzes. Use of GC to feedback - students seem to like this.

We have been using Google classroom every other week for their homework, setting a quiz style homework. The most recent quiz set had some questions that were short answer rather than multiple choice which was a new format for me to mark. Unfortunately it caused some confusion with the self marking side of the quiz and quite a few pupils commented on the task stating that they had not reached the required pass mark as the short answers (although correct) were not marked. I have had to use colour coding on the spreadsheet to to get their actual scores - I am hoping that there is an easier way to do this as I feel that written answers in the quiz are ore beneficial than just multiple choice!

They then submitted the link to their sites in a Google Classroom assignment to enable me to view them. The beauty of this system is that all assets live in Google Drive and are therefore autosaved, backed up and auditable. If work is updated, the content on the Google Site automatically updates too. Kaizena is now linked to Google Classroom and all of my classes are accessible. I can send whole class feedback, group feedback and individual feedback by using the 'conversation' section of the Kaizena app.
Students have been proactive in using their feedback and listening to it using both Chromebooks and their mobile phones.
I am keeping a note form version of their feedback so I can continue to track their progress. Annoying Kaizena does not save the conversations on my device.

I have created a series of multiple choice quizzes on each of the topics in the American Expansion and Consolidation unit in History and put them up on Google Classroom. I gave students the option to complete them or not for their revision. I have the raw data from these quizzes and from the Year 9 mock exams; my next step is to analyse the data and see if patterns emerge between who completed the quizzes or not and how they performed on knowledge-based questions. I am aware that students who completed the quizzes are also more likely to have done additional revision; therefore, an extra element to my research may be required to further investigate the impact that Google Classroom Quizzes may have.
