Factual: In the pre-colonial era, tattoos were seen as more than just a form of body art. Tattoos were regarded as a mark of courage, a symbol of social position, and a rite of passage depending on the region. Pintados were the name given to tattooed Visayan warriors. In fact when the Spaniards first came to the Visayas, they called the people Pintados, meaning “painted ones”, because of their heavily tattooed bodies. The tattoos themselves were motifs inspired by nature.

Reference:

https://lifestyle.inquirer.net/374686/tattoos-the-art-that-exhibits-philippine-culture-and-history/#:~:text=During%20pre%2Dcolonial%20and%20early,with%20tattoos%20were%20called%20Pintados.

Factual: The Lady of the Most Holy Rosary is depicted in an icon wearing the traditional colors of blue and red. Sitting on a cloud, she is seen carrying the Infant Jesus in her left arm and a 15-decade Rosary cross in her right hand. Jesus the Infant is dressed in a pale blue outfit. He is holding a globe with a cross on it in his right hand as a representation of his function as the earth's guardian. He is holding one end of the rosary in his right and left hands. The icon's setting is uncommon since Our Lady isn't seated on a throne; instead, she's perched on a cloud and visiting Purgatory to comfort the suffering souls who want to enter paradise and be with Our Lord and Our Lady in all their splendour.

Reference:

https://pintakasi1521.blogspot.com/2016/10/nuestra-senora-del-santisimo-rosario.html

It clearly identifies the painting's subject.

Factual: One of Fernando Amorsolo's most well-known paintings is the "Dalagang Bukid." The first National Artist, Fernando Amorsolo, is praised for imbuing the public psyche with an idyllic and romanticized view of the Philippines. The dalagang bukid, or Philippine provincial lass, is widely regarded as the maestro's most famous subject matter. Amorsolo's bright and colorful pastoral representations are instantly recognizable for being suffused with a golden glow, reflecting the sweet disposition, charm, and wholesome beauty of the subject. She is the embodiment of everything admirable about the motherland, surrounded by lush vegetation that is dappled with sunlight. She is the image of a long-forgotten, bygone past.

The banga or clay jar that the young lady carries, a vessel for carrying water, is seen as a symbol of fragility and innocence, and is a reference to the song made famous by National Artist Atang de la Rama in the 1919 sarswela.

Dalagang Bukid:

"May isang dalagang nagsalok ng tubig
Kinis ng ganda nya'y hubog sa nilatik..."

Reference:

https://salcedoauctions.com/item/3219

Factual: Contemporary art is the art of today, produced by artists who are living in the twenty-first century. This artwork is called Illustrative art. As such, it reflects the complex issues that shape our diverse, global, and rapidly changing world. An illustrative art is a visualization or a depiction made by an artist, such as a drawing, sketch, painting, photograph, or other kind of image of things seen, remembered or imagined, using a graphical representation. Through their work, many contemporary artists explore personal or cultural identity, offer critiques of social and institutional structures, or even attempt to redefine art itself. It allows Filipino artists to portray the subject and the medium in innovative and skillful ways, reflecting Filipino identity.

Reference:

https://www.getty.edu/education/teachers/classroom_resources/curricula/contemporary_art/background1.html

Time is reflected through art. First, First, during the Pre-Colonial era, when the Philippines already possessed art that was regarded as unique and sophisticated. Some of the widely forms of visual arts in the Pre-Colonial Period are tattoos from the pintados in Panay, the Bulul. Next, we come to the Spanish Period, in which religious propaganda for Catholicism was expressed through artistic painting. Hence, most churches have walls with paintings. Third, during the American Colonization period, painter's themes show the beauty of the land and its people. Fourth, during the Japanese Period, the dark period in the Philippine arts. Writing, publishing, and artistic endeavors were restricted and slowed down as a result of the Japanese government's strict regulations. The Contemporary period is the last one and represents modern art. Usually, the artists are still producing art today. Instead of focusing exclusively on aesthetics or the way a piece of art looks, art during this period frequently address certain issues that are relevant and very timely. Artists experiment with ideas and materials in a variety of ways.

Through the years, we can see how Philippine Artworks progressed as time goes by. Through the colonizers who came to the country, Philippines had a taste of the Renaissance, Baroque, and Modern Periods. The essential aspect of our lives are represented in art, which also reflects our history. The ever-evolving culture we live in and its power to change society's values are depicted in these paintings. Furthermore, art enriches people's lives and contributes to the preservation of cultures and societies around the world. It is a representation of society and a window into the nuanced identities of individuals. We may therefore comprehend our human past and how it relates to the present through these paintings.
