The people living in this village in Guatemala endure all of nature's elements with little shelter and protection. They have no furniture and no floors. They have barely any food, and the food they do have could be dangerous, as well as their water. I always just thought of my house as a normal, average thing that isn’t anything special, but after watching, I realized that not everyone is as fortunate to have a house like I do.

They learned about how the people in Guatemala make a living and how hard their lives are. They got to connect with these people and experience the hardship of their lives for a few months. In order to understand and know a situation better, you have to experience it. This is true for many things, such as poverty. There are many other people who travel to other countries to experience what it is like to live there. In the boys experience in Guatemala, they learned that specific areas in that country need lots of support. They also learned that if there were proper resources in the country necessary to live a stable life. In the documentary film "Living on One Dollar," almost all citizens in that one village of Guatemala had huge families ranging from four to eight members. Guatamala also has a high poverty rate, thus more people are having children to help them have a greater chance in survival. Guatemala's death rate could be high as well, because healthcare can be prohibitively expensive for people who cannot afford it, which is a factor that may make it not stage 1. In addition, I also found it interesting that they would save $12 every month and then once they reach a certain amount, they would draw a name then give it to that person so they could afford more expensive items—for example, a stove.

Food is such an essential part of your daily life, and without it, it can be tough to continue with your everyday life. Occasionally, if I didn't feel like finishing my plate, I would dispose of what Was left, but after seeing what they had to go through, to just get 500 calories into their system to perform with their daily lives. It has shown me not to take a single piece of food for granted.
