Also self-catering is not a bad option because you can safe some money if you cook your own food. But I choose retreats. In this type of accommodation you have a lot of differents activities. You can enjoy outdoors activities like yoga, running or walks. Retreats always have a big green park in which you can be in contact with the nature. In my personal opinion other important point is that retreats offer healthy menu.

Even if you travel alone you can find great friends in a place like this and continue traveling with them.  
Besides, it's more cheap and you can save money to travel to other places.

I think it has a lot of advantages, one of them is price. It's usually cheaper than a hotel, as you can cook your own meals, for example. Besides, you can meet people from different places and make good friends. Also, you are free to decide what to do, what place you want to visit and enjoy yourself as you like.

I choose this option because I like freedom to be myself and the best way to do that is alone, or with someone you know very well. In my experience I've been living in youth hostels and I have to admit that it is a great experience that you get; you meet a lot a people and share a lot of stories with them. But the main problem with this is that you cannot get privacy, you will have to share space with a lot o people. By knowing this, you will have to admit that not necessairly everybody is going to be nice to you and you'll must learn to deal with it.

In my case I like to play the guitar and that's the best way I try to spend my time (I play a lot). Though it's a quality a lot of people may find interesting, it's just for a moment untill they find this quality as an only making noise guy.
