I would use adding mentally to add £9.87,£16.22 and £5.12 together to get the total of the money in this problem. We would partition the money into pounds and pennies. Then I would add 12p +22p+40p+40p then I would add £9+£16+£5 because it is the fastest and easiest way.and that is the way you could get the answer (the easiest way)

To solve the problem you can use a number line and metal subtraction . You need to take away because you have to subtract £13.36 from a £20 note. We also need to take away because Krishna has just bought a skateboard that is £13.36 but he has given the shop owner a £20 note . So first you need to take away £13 from a £20 note then you subtract 36p from the answer you got from when you subtracted £13 from a £20 note.
You need to subtract 36p because if you don't then

To solve this problem we are going to multiply £3.60 by 27 because one ticket cost £3.60. The method we are going to use to work it out is to work out how many £3.60s go into 27 We started by doubling £3.60 which equals £7.20. Then we doubled £7.20 which equals £14.40 so far we have done 4 £3.60s into 27, we can't double £14.40 because that will be over 27. So what we have decided to do is to add £7.20 to £14.40 which equals £21.60

To solve this problem I would times 33 by 2 which equals 66 because there are 2 boxes and 33 bananas in each box so you need to double the amount of bananas to get the amount of bananas in 2 boxes. Then you need to do 27 x 4 which equals 108 because there are 4 boxes and 27 apples in each box so you need to times 27 by 4. After that you need to do 5 x 12 which equals 60 because there are 5 boxes with 12 pineapples in each box so you need to times 5 by 12. Finally you need to add all of the answers together because the question asks you to find out how many pieces of fruit are there altogether so you need to add the 60 pineapples to the 66 bananas and then you need to add the 108 apples to that.

To solve this problem I would use the column subtraction method because you are pouring out 370 ml water from a jug of water containing 785 ml of water. This is taking away because you are removing 370 ml of water. As 785 and 370 are large numbers you will need a way to take away quickly and easily. The column subtraction is easy because it allows you to line up the place value (units ,tens and hundreds) in a clear way.

To work out how much one ticket costs we would count out how many dots in one of the sections.

We know that one melon is 72p. We need to work out how much a melon costs at half price. To work this out we divided 72p by 2
We knew that half of 70 is 35 and half of 2 is 1.So we added the one to 35 which made 36
Therefore we got the answer to the half price deal. We know that 2 melons would cost £1.08 because we added 72p to 36p. We then need to work out how many melons you can buy with £8. To work this out I know that it costs £1.08 for 2 melons. We need to work out how many times £1.08 divides into £8. As it is over £1 we know it is less than 8 times because 8 x £1 is £8. Therefore we need to work out 7 lots of £1 08. To make it easier to do this, we multiply 7 by £1 and 7 by 8p and add them together which makes £7.56. In order to work out how many melons, we need to calculate 7 lots of 2 melons to give you the answer.

Add 5 to the answer of the first part of the problem. Take a third away from the answer to the second part of the problem and then add 3. Then you should have the right answer !

I know we need to add 37mins to 16:45 because the train is running 37mins late but it was supposed to arrive at 16:45. First I would add 15mins to 16:45 to take it to the next hour 17:00. Then I would add the remaining total 22mins to 17:00 to get the answer. I needed to add 22mins on because 15mins plus 22mins is 37mins

This question involves timesing because you have to times 350 20 times because there are 20 bags of 350 grams of flour. You have to work out the answer in kilograms which 1kg =1000g so you have to divide your answer by 1000 so it can be in kilos. Timesing is where you have to add the number as many times as it says for you to times it .When you times 350 g by 20 you should get your answer. A tip is to move 350 along to the left if you have a place value grid and double your answer.

First I would work out 10% of the total price of the dress because this is easier to work out than 20% . I know that 10% is the same as 1/10 of the price. To work out 1/10 ( a fraction) of the price I would need to divide by 10. So I would divide £65 by10 which equals £6.50 but you have only worked out 10% of the price. So you double £6.50 to work out 20%. This will give you how much you would get off a £65 dress.
