         <description><![CDATA[<p>1) Located in northeastern Nebraska, Shell Creek </p><p>2) High levels of atrazine (herbicide) due to runoff of agricultural field  </p><p>3) A series of best management practices (BMPs) were implemented to help with this problem. These included no tilling, cover crops, habitat and riparian buffers, wastewater treatment, etc. There was also incentives for following these procedures and conservation strategies. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The story is located in Holmes Lake. The problem was runoff of nutrients and sediments into the lake creating areas with low oxygen, and high lake loss. Phosphorous was leaking into the water along with the sediment creating eutrophic zones. The issue was solved through NDEQ putting limits on the total annual dumpings of sediment and phosphorus into the lake. They also have continued community outreach which has resulted in 63 percent of residents using low-phosphorous or phosphorous free fertilizer.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Reply from Celia Paulsen</p><p>The success story is located at Shell Creek. The nutrient problem was atrazine contamination in the watershed. This was solved by implementing no-till farming, non-invasive nitrogen application, habitat buffers, cover crops, well decommissioning, and filter strips. All of these helped remove Shell Creek from the aquatic life impairment due to atrazine list.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Location:</p><p>Kirkmans Cove Reservoir is in Richardson County</p><p><br/></p><p>Nutrient Problem:</p><p>Low levels of dissolved oxygen due to excessive nutrient loading and organic enrichment.</p><p><br/></p><p>Solution:</p><p>A reduction is phosphorus loading, increased the oxygen levels by 48%. Other pollutants like nitrogen, sediment, and atrazine were also reduced and the oxygen levels increased.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
