Without it, the Arab people's were largely nomadic tribes, but Islam brought them together and gave them a common purpose. In terms of conquest, they were able to attain a large amount of land because in previous years the Byzantine and Sassanid (Persian) Empires had been at war with each other and were both significantly weaker because of it. Culturally the Arabs were able to develop because of their passion for learning, they viewed education as a very important part of life. This is why during the Middle Ages the Islamic Empire was the most advanced place you could be, they were making great discoveries in math, medicine, science, and philosophy. They also worked on translating old documents and texts into Arabic which saved them for us today. They were also tolerant concerning Jews and Christians, letting them live in their Empire as long as they paid a tax for having a different religion.
